We Watched "The Creator"
Matt (00:00.445)
Hello and welcome back to the real popcorn and plot holes where the real host takes over from a bunch of jack -o' -moles who apparently don't like how he hosts the show. With me is one of those jack -o' -moles, Luciano. Explain yourself.
Luciano (00:11.454)
What are you talking about? I have no idea what you're talking about.
Spencer (00:13.452)
I'm not said Jackamole.
Matt (00:16.603)
Yo Jack 'em all!
Luciano (00:16.606)
No, you didn't show up either, you motherfucker.
Spencer (00:20.46)
I knew what to do.
Matt (00:20.765)
In his defense, he made the right call. The other Jackamole, however, was too scared, too much of a coward to join us on this podcast. So it's just the three of us.
Spencer (00:25.08)
What
Luciano (00:28.126)
Yeah.
Spencer (00:30.7)
Yeah, some might call him the lead Jack -O -Mole.
Matt (00:33.469)
Some might. He was hosting, so most of the blame falls on him.
Luciano (00:35.678)
Yeah, he was. Yeah, I only trash talked to you because he convinced me that he was right. And I agree with him.
Matt (00:42.173)
Right, so you're just a weak -willed coward. That's great. That's where you want to stand. Anyways, unrelated to that, we are finishing our facts movies you missed in 2023. For those uninitiated folks who have found us at this weird time, facts are fantasy, action, comic, thriller, and it's fine. I got it. I just paused for like a second. And sci -fi is the other one.
Luciano (00:46.046)
Sure, let's go with that.
Luciano (01:05.726)
comic.
Luciano (01:12.318)
Yeah, nice save.
Matt (01:12.541)
All movies just super clear. Just thriller is not thriller. I just had to pause for a second. Chop that all off. Just thriller. So we had gone through the facts movies in order and that leaves us at science fiction and for science fiction we picked the creator the 2023 I guess. Again, what the Navi vehicle that sounds like the best one. What's Gemma Gemma Chan vehicle?
Spencer (01:12.812)
Movies.
Luciano (01:20.894)
No.
Luciano (01:29.022)
Unfortunately, whoa.
Luciano (01:33.822)
Ken Watanabe vehicle. Yeah.
Luciano (01:41.086)
Can you say it when she disappears for like two thirds of the movie?
Matt (01:47.229)
She was in the first five minutes and the last five minutes, basically. Oh yeah, she played Corpse. It's really weird to put her as high billing on that movie. It doesn't feel like, it didn't, you know how like, I don't know if you guys remember watching Executive Decision when I was like, Steven Seagal had second billing with Kurt Russell. And then, it's like a 90s action. It's like they have to fly a stealth.
Luciano (01:49.95)
And then a corpse. Yeah. Yeah.
Luciano (01:58.11)
This is like second billing, I think.
Matt (02:16.093)
plane up to connect to like an airplane because there's terrorists on it anyways and so they're all getting on the plane and then like the plane shifts because of turbulence and and the stealth plane blows up and yes it all dies like instantly at the beginning of the movie and like no one expects that right because Steven Seagal is such a it's fantastically 90s action movie anyways beyond that that really long and terrible reference that's what we watched yeah
Spencer (02:25.068)
Doesn't it all fly out?
Luciano (02:29.918)
Okay, now I have to watch this movie.
Nice.
Spencer (02:37.708)
Is that what we're watching?
Luciano (02:38.046)
Ha ha ha!
Matt (02:42.557)
But anyway, so, the creator, as we always try to do, we try to be positive about the movies we watch, just in case we end up giving them a negative review. Who knows why we would do that? We're very positive people. But let's start positive. What did you guys like about the creator?
Spencer (02:51.756)
Hehehehehe
Luciano (02:53.232)
Hahaha
Spencer (02:59.82)
Um, well, I can start. I liked a lot about this movie. Actually, I liked this movie. Although there are a lot of plot holes that we have to get through. Yeah. I am a, I like things. Luciano should try it once in your miserable existence. Um, so this movie was like, we're talking about good things. One, this movie looked really cool. I thought the visuals were really, really good.
Luciano (03:05.79)
You would. You would.
Luciano (03:13.406)
I don't know how. I don't know how.
Matt (03:15.707)
No shit.
Luciano (03:27.262)
True. Yeah.
Spencer (03:29.036)
I thought the cinematography was really good. I thought the CGI was like, it looked like a really big budget movie. I don't know what the budget was, but it felt like the budget of like, I don't say Avatar, but like some of it looked more realistic than like most Marvel movies. Right. And I don't think the, I don't think like, like it has half the budget of like a Marvel movie would get. So on that front looks all around looks good.
Luciano (03:43.518)
Than Avatar. Yeah, it did.
Matt (03:44.573)
Yeah. Wow. Yeah.
Spencer (03:58.732)
and none of the acting was really bad. It was all solid. It was a solid movie. Like I said, there are some plot holes, true holes.
Luciano (04:02.59)
True, true.
Matt (04:09.755)
What's bigger than a hole? Like a cavern? I guess it's a... plot crevice? Plot abyss! Yeah.
Spencer (04:13.196)
Bigger than a -
Luciano (04:14.046)
a crevice, an abyss.
Spencer (04:17.036)
Well, holes can be any size. That's still a hole.
Matt (04:21.693)
No, but it doesn't give you the, if you say hole, do you think like, like the size of a black hole or do you think like, you know, a hole you dug to shit in the back here?
Spencer (04:28.46)
butthole.
Spencer (04:33.004)
I do think of a shithole. Alright, I'll allow it. So it has some abyss sized shitholes. But aside from that, it was an enjoyable movie. I enjoyed it. Although it fucking bummed me out a bit. It's a little depressing. I'm not gonna say that too.
Luciano (04:35.07)
Hahaha!
Matt (04:36.401)
Hehehehe
Matt (04:42.077)
Great, you got some fine work you've done.
Luciano (04:43.198)
Nice matchup.
Matt (04:52.797)
burying the lead on a little bit depressing but.
Luciano (04:52.83)
Yeah, yeah, the... So what you're saying is, aside from all of the things that are bad, this movie is pretty good.
Spencer (04:55.052)
Yeah, it's quite a bummer.
Matt (05:03.389)
Hey man, don't do this. We're focusing on the good parts of the movie. You cannot drag us down. 5 minutes in.
Spencer (05:04.202)
What I'm saying...
What I'm saying is, Luciana, is this movie was depressing and hurt my soul, so I thought someone soulless like yourself would enjoy it.
Luciano (05:08.254)
Okay, I will.
Luciano (05:16.414)
No, you were wrong. But I can see why you mean. No, I actually, I liked most of the same things. Like I thought the acting was good and it was pretty, but like, I think I like to pick like a weird thing always. And the thing that I like, I think I enjoyed the most in this movie and really legit made me laugh was when they're invading that facility where Alfie is and like the door closes and then there's some scientists inside speaking some other language and they have a translator and the translator goes,
Spencer (05:17.932)
I was wrong.
Luciano (05:45.662)
make love to yourself and please make love to your mother. I was like, nice. I liked that translator joke. I legit laughed at that. So that was my favorite moment in this movie. Everything else sucked. No, I'm kidding. But you know.
Spencer (05:58.54)
There was some weird jokes in it too that were like a little out of place with how dark it was. But they weren't bad jokes, like some of them were kind of funny. But like that and like when the family of six children gets shot up by the police, I know hilarious, and then he turns and goes, did anybody have fun? And the one kid like puts his arm around, he's like, all right, all right. Yeah, there's some, as I said, there's a couple parts that were funny. I know, and they were like good, they were like.
Luciano (06:03.518)
Like what?
Matt (06:13.821)
Hehehehehe
Luciano (06:14.014)
Hahaha!
Matt (06:18.973)
Yeah, yeah, it was.
Luciano (06:20.19)
That was funny though. That was legit funny. Yeah.
Spencer (06:26.828)
They felt like Marvel, again, going back to Marvel, like those Marvel cut the tension jokes, but they were actually funny, which Marvel hasn't done in a while.
Luciano (06:30.75)
Yeah.
Matt (06:34.397)
Yeah, that Marvel doesn't love to do funny. Well, good funny. Um, any more. I mean, I agree with you guys. I think like, we're going to get into some of the world building in the plot hole section, but I, in broad strokes, I thought the world building was interesting. You know, the application of technology were what? It's 2065. So it's like near future essentially, but you know, how technology works and how things are operating and how the world is, you know, it's a...
Spencer (06:37.802)
anymore.
Luciano (06:49.854)
Mm -hmm.
Luciano (07:03.71)
we blame things on things that are not to blame for. Yeah.
Matt (07:07.279)
Yeah, I mean, that's that's not really near future. That's what we do now. I, you know, but I think it was just I want to know more about the actual like world politics, world governance, what's happening with AI for real more than just like the unfortunately very transparent, you know, backdrop to the story to make it flow. Right. And so but I was always intrigued by, you know, the feelings we got when we went to cities and, you know, you got that.
Luciano (07:30.078)
Yeah.
Matt (07:36.529)
And not, it's kind of cyber punky, I guess, but not fully cyber punky. Like future tech mixing was like, you know, yeah, well, the world wasn't just spoke dystopic, just the, you know, the movie was.
Luciano (07:41.278)
Yeah, it's a bit less dystopic than cyberpunk, right? Yeah.
Spencer (07:46.796)
It was pretty cyberpunk -y.
Luciano (07:49.918)
the situation. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Spencer (07:55.948)
Yeah, I would agree. I did think it was pretty cyber punky. Is cyber punky a word?
Matt (08:02.109)
It's like, yeah, it is. Sure. It is now. It's, you know, you know what it is. It's like, it's cyber funky, but it's also kind of like, it's not steam punk, but it's like that blend of like weird tech.
Luciano (08:02.716)
It is now.
Luciano (08:12.574)
Yeah, it's like normalizing very like it's for us. It's very like whoa. And for them is like just Tuesday. It has a has had a little bit of a chappy feel to me as well.
Matt (08:25.117)
Yeah.
Spencer (08:25.548)
Yeah, like it's like a very tactile futuristic tech.
Luciano (08:28.732)
Yeah.
Matt (08:29.853)
It's they picked a couple things to advance future tech in and a bunch of other stuff. They're just like, there's no need to advance this tech, which is is more realistic, right? Like.
Luciano (08:35.582)
No, it's the same. Yeah.
Spencer (08:37.452)
guns.
Luciano (08:39.378)
To me the one thing where that was kind of When they did like because they usually advance things like in sci -fi movies when it's like near future or like a little bit in the future they try to make things be mod like be a technology technologically advanced it doesn't make any sense and they don't do this in that movie in this movie actually, but there's one thing There's a boat when they're in that boat and the boat instead of floating on the water. It flows slightly above the water like why?
Spencer (09:05.164)
Yeah, I thought that too.
Luciano (09:09.342)
That's the only thing.
Spencer (09:09.548)
that saves on resistance and therefore gas, which we don't need anymore. Just boats, not cars or tanks.
Luciano (09:13.47)
Ha ha!
Matt (09:13.597)
But we're only gonna do it for boats, even though we clearly have hover technology. It's just for boats. Or anything else. Yeah.
Luciano (09:16.19)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, the tanks just go because how are you going to, you know, roll over shanty towns if you don't have rollers, right? Yeah.
Spencer (09:23.468)
The tanks could have used that hover tank. I mean...
Spencer (09:29.676)
If you don't have treads, those are tactile tactile treads.
Matt (09:35.293)
Alright, let's, let's, let's see. It's, you know, it's fine. We were nice. We talked about the thing we liked about the movie.
Spencer (09:39.436)
That's our positive parts of the film.
Matt (09:42.173)
That was the positive. Listen, it's not all bad. It's not... Listen, this is what we do. Fuck you guys. You came here to listen to a trashless movie and you know it. So fuck you for judging us.
Luciano (09:50.27)
Yeah, you knew what you were doing when you played this. Yeah.
Spencer (09:52.34)
Don't censor me! Don't censor me!
Matt (09:58.653)
So let's talk about some of the stuff that was not so hot. We're gonna try to tiptoe around the plot holes because as we said, they are plot shitabuses and it's gonna be hard, but we'll do our best. There are little things that, you and I understand why it happens because you're trying to like, so the thing, one thing I wanna point out that frustrated me was like the army gang that Joshua signs up to to go assault the base to find the weapon, right? And they're all just such,
Luciano (10:08.35)
Hahaha!
Matt (10:27.581)
cut and dried like evil stereotypic soldiers. But in a way that's just like, it's like, oh, this guy's the racist one and this guy's also the racist one and this guy's probably also the racist one. Yeah.
Luciano (10:29.694)
Yeah, like two dimensional. Yeah. Yeah.
Luciano (10:36.798)
Well, there's one, one of them was almost literally a puppy kicker. Like he picks up the dog. I'm like, really? Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (10:37.484)
that one over there, that's the racist one.
Matt (10:43.803)
Yeah.
Spencer (10:44.78)
Yeah, yeah, I put a gun to his head. He put a gun to a puppy's head
Matt (10:47.581)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it's just like, it's like, I don't like, I don't know why I have to hate these soldiers. Like I don't, they mean nothing to me. And even making them all evil did nothing for the story.
Luciano (11:01.694)
No, because it's... yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (11:01.836)
It actually, it's a detriment to the story because it makes it seem way like way less gray, which makes it way simpler.
Matt (11:04.187)
Kind of.
Luciano (11:07.55)
And it's not even consistent because like they're pricks to everybody else and everything else, including Taylor. But then with each other, they try to be nice, like when they like, oh, come on, run, run, run. You can make it right with the girl that was the girl, the woman that was left behind, the one with the stealth missiles. We're going to talk about the police later, but.
They're like, oh no, we're gonna like, so like, they only like each other and then everything else is just fuck it. We're just gonna shoot and kill everything.
Spencer (11:41.356)
Sounds like a modern military soldier to me. God must burn!
Luciano (11:43.582)
That's true.
Matt (11:48.285)
America Power!
Spencer (11:49.324)
American power. I agree. They are very two dimensional characters. If you can call them characters. And the thing is, you didn't have to make them that way because they actually, if you step back and looked at the story, like in the story, AI nuked America and now they're responding. So they're like, like when I told Ash, my wife, Ashley, the, the, the premise, she's like,
Luciano (11:51.194)
Ugh.
Spencer (12:17.612)
I was like, so they nuked them and now America wants to get rid of all of the AI because it's a risk to all humanity. She's like, makes sense. Like that's a that's a good reason. Yeah, story tracks. And then it's like in the movie, though, it's like, yeah, that's a bitch man, woman and child.
Matt (12:24.381)
Yep. Sorry, Trax.
Luciano (12:24.574)
Yeah.
Luciano (12:30.942)
It's like, yeah, it's like they're there. They were looking they were looking for an excuse to go gung -ho and everything. Yeah
Spencer (12:37.164)
But gung -ho on women, children, and everyone.
Luciano (12:41.534)
Oh yeah, no. If you like AI, you're fair game. Doesn't matter what you are.
Matt (12:42.831)
I think...
I think the word you're looking for is there a gung ho on Vietnam. Oh, did I say that? Sorry, my bad. Sorry, new Vietnam, my bad.
Spencer (12:46.442)
Yeah.
Spencer (12:50.988)
Yeah, where did you get that? Where did you get that, man? Where would you get that analogy from?
Luciano (12:51.23)
Oh, shit. No, it's new Asia, new Asia. Vietnam. It's Vietnam. That's what they did. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I hadn't even drawn that that parallel. You're absolutely right. Yeah. I hadn't even thought of that. I think no. You know what? You know what happened? I was watching. I was like, why does this feel so familiar? Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (12:58.813)
Yeah. Okay. My bad. Um, yeah. So it's.
Bye.
Spencer (13:06.252)
What? You didn't draw the parallel to Vietnam in this film?
Spencer (13:13.004)
You might as well have had them flying into the chopper with,
Matt (13:16.733)
Heheheheh
Matt (13:20.893)
I love the smell of future napalm in the morning.
Spencer (13:22.948)
Future Napop!
Luciano (13:23.038)
And you know what the worst part is? They still used like 70s music when Taylor steals that truck they're playing Deep Purple. I was like, might as well have just played CCR and it would have been at least more poignant, right? Yeah, oh no, no, God forbid.
Matt (13:31.197)
Yep. Yep.
Spencer (13:32.49)
Yeah.
Spencer (13:37.132)
Don't be too on the nose.
Matt (13:39.325)
Nah, nah.
Matt (13:43.357)
couldn't have that. So like that was just like the first part. Like honestly, the whole opening of the movie, I was like, it was, it was very disjointed for me for like the first, you know, 15 to 15 minutes to maybe 25 minutes when it's like, okay, we're here where he's embedded with, you know, like the, the AI team that is like near, uh, Nomada. And then the Americans show up and fuck everything up. And then his wife dies. And then, and there were like, it's like all this emotional baggage that you need to clear to tell the whole story. That's like just,
Luciano (13:57.532)
Yeah.
Spencer (14:05.932)
He's like, he's like, what the fuck?
Luciano (14:13.694)
And you know what? Yeah, but like at the beginning of the movie, I was like, OK, we're in for a fucking dark ride here, like, you know, with what you said. And then the military basically blackmailing Taylor to go back. Like, basically, Ellis and Janey's character just said, hey, if you come with us, maybe we won't kill your wife again. Right. Like, that's basically what she says to him. I was like, holy shit. And then.
Matt (14:13.885)
Feels weird.
Spencer (14:36.94)
No promises.
Luciano (14:41.596)
And we were talking about this as I was watching the movie, Matty, I was, you you're like, just wait, because it's going to take a turn. I'm like, okay. And it did not take a good turn, but yeah, I, in the first like 15 minutes or so, I was like, okay, this is a little weird, but at least it looks like it's a very. Like not cerebral, but like a very sort of deep story, but no, it's not. No, it's not.
Spencer (15:03.628)
It's a pretty blatant allegory for war and oppression of the AI is clearly like the prejudiced people or race and America is like the one, the colonizers.
Luciano (15:08.83)
Yeah.
Luciano (15:13.404)
No.
Yeah, no, and also like just exactly like just painting the US is like.
Like that little...
Spencer (15:26.06)
Evil? The other word you're looking for is monstrous war criminals.
Matt (15:26.749)
Sorry, war criminals is the word you're looking for.
Luciano (15:29.886)
Yeah, yeah. No, yeah, because it was, you know, it's just like, oh, they were waiting for that one excuse to be the warmongering bastards that they are. And they like in the movie sort of like dwells on it for the entirety of like the last. Like three, like three quarters of the movie is just us seeing and we're going to talk about it later. It's just us seeing like, yeah, America, we are evil. Like, it's just that.
Spencer (15:41.612)
Yes.
Matt (15:55.901)
Okay. But like, okay.
Spencer (15:56.14)
It was also scene after scene of him going to somewhere, talking, and them blowing up that area, then him leaving for another area, them talking, blowing up, killing everyone there. I think that happened three times in a row.
Luciano (16:02.428)
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Matt (16:04.253)
blowing it up.
Luciano (16:08.764)
Mm -hmm.
Matt (16:09.949)
we're gonna get into this so I'm not I only thing I want to ask is what was with the font the US Army font on the tank it was such a happy life flowery font on these gigantic killing machines yeah basically right it's just didn't match anything just like who put that font on there like why
Luciano (16:16.798)
Yeah. Yeah. Might as well... Might as well have been Comic Sans.
Spencer (16:22.892)
Hehehe
Spencer (16:26.892)
It was Papyrus.
Luciano (16:31.614)
Yeah.
Spencer (16:34.568)
One guy was just like, I'm gonna just, I'm gonna take my shot and just change up the design. This is, I'm the font guy and I'm taking a risk. Not playing it safe.
Luciano (16:37.918)
Yeah, this is my moment to shine. Yeah. We're going to make it baby blue. Yeah.
Matt (16:40.829)
Yeah.
Spencer (16:47.788)
Although those tanks those tanks look sick. I thought they looked really cool
Matt (16:48.411)
Yeah, yeah. It's gonna be, it's gonna...
Luciano (16:52.734)
The whole thing, I think out of everything that they showed in terms of like military stuff, the tanks are even cooler than Nomad, I found. Like with the targeting thing on the ground and like following people running around, it was super cool. Yeah.
Spencer (16:59.948)
Yeah, I thought.
Spencer (17:04.524)
Yeah, that was sick. I thought that looked really cool. I thought -
Matt (17:06.557)
I just assumed it was, you know the tanks from StarCraft? It basically, I was looking at those things. Yeah, I was just waiting for it to like clamp down and spin around and just have a giant turn to like destroy cities. But yeah, yeah.
Luciano (17:10.396)
Mm, 100%. Identify target!
Spencer (17:14.54)
I don't know what you guys are talking about, but...
Luciano (17:20.67)
They should have done that because that would have been cool. This is a game. They never played Starcraft. Okay, yeah.
Spencer (17:23.404)
It felt I never played Starcraft. I know what it is, though. I was born in later year. You're just just kidding. No, but all the tech really reminded me all the military tech really reminded me of James Cameron military, which I always think he does awesome. You know, the military and aliens and the military and Avatar, which are basically the exact same.
Matt (17:26.587)
God damn.
Matt (17:30.277)
Wow, fuck you.
Luciano (17:30.724)
Wow.
Luciano (17:42.494)
Yeah, in Aliens. Yeah, it's pretty, you're right. It has that really like, yeah, it's very like form follows function. Like it's not no nonsense. There's no frills. Yeah.
Spencer (17:49.44)
Like futuristic but still like military.
Spencer (18:00.904)
Yeah.
Matt (18:02.301)
It's essentially the opposite of like when they show us like the the future cars where like the cars just have like the the engine cut out for no reason on the wheels. That's just like, oh, you're just trying to show us that they're future cars, but you have no idea how to do it.
Luciano (18:09.66)
Yeah.
Yeah, it's the, to me the most egregious example of that is when they make screens transparent. And then I don't know if you've ever seen like, they did some like CG tests of how it would actually work and it's impossible to see anything because of the light coming through. It would be useless. It would be useless. Yeah.
Spencer (18:15.628)
Those are future wheels to you, sir.
Matt (18:17.565)
Sorry.
Matt (18:24.125)
Yes.
Matt (18:33.149)
Yeah, it's fucking, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Classic. That's fine. Tony Stark will solve it for us. It'll be fine.
Spencer (18:34.476)
Well, with modern tech.
Spencer (18:39.052)
Nah, we'll get there. Don't give up, transparent phone people.
Matt (18:46.973)
So, okay, so like that, you know, one of the other things I wanted to talk to you with you guys about, cause it, I don't if it annoyed me or just puzzled me, but I was just really curious.
what Joshua, his plan was. Like I know, I know he wanted to get back to his wife because she thought she was alive. Sorry. I guess I know what his plan was. He had to get to Maya. My bad.
Luciano (19:08.892)
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (19:09.28)
Any point?
No, I wanna get to my wife! I need to get to Maya! Where's Maya?
Luciano (19:15.87)
Yeah.
Spencer (19:17.932)
I have to go to Maya. Where's Maya?
Luciano (19:19.166)
I don't, I think I, I know what you mean is like, okay, let's say you got to Maya and she wasn't a vegetable, which is, you know, spoiler alert. I was like, what was your plan? Well, yeah. And, and like you said, Spencer, like anywhere he went, things got fucked. Like he did, and he did not care. He, like he found his friend, his friend had a girlfriend.
Matt (19:27.717)
spoilers. Yeah.
Spencer (19:31.884)
I need to get to Maya. Where's Maya? Do you know where Maya is?
Spencer (19:40.588)
Like totally fucked. He didn't know he could not.
Luciano (19:47.838)
They both got fucked. And even when the guy got out, got shot in the back by like, it's like, he's just like a one man wrecking crew.
Spencer (19:50.066)
Nothing.
Spencer (19:55.34)
Now what does he, the first thing he says to him, his friend whose girlfriend got killed and then he got killed was, I'm sorry. That's what he says to the main character. He's like, you just got him killed. He's like, I'm sorry. I should have told you that your wife was, what's her name, Miyama? I should have told you, I apologize. You have not done anything worse to me ever.
Luciano (20:04.51)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Matt (20:08.709)
Yep.
Luciano (20:11.836)
The -
Matt (20:15.515)
Nomada.
Luciano (20:16.186)
Nirvana, Nirvana, yeah.
Matt (20:18.045)
Sorry, near motto.
Luciano (20:20.158)
Yeah, no, imagine that.
Spencer (20:24.844)
I thought he was gonna be like, fuck you. You know? Yeah. That's a - Yeah. I hope she's a vegetable and then you have to kill her.
Luciano (20:27.262)
Yeah, hope your wife dies. Again.
Luciano (20:36.918)
Oh man, can you imagine? Like she's dying and going, I just hope for your sake that your wife isn't in a coma and you're the only one who can kill her. Bye!
Matt (20:37.917)
hahahaha
Spencer (20:38.092)
Hehehehehe hehehe he
Matt (20:47.933)
Hehehehehe
Spencer (20:48.492)
and you have to have... Bye! Peace! Mic drop!
Luciano (20:53.598)
Hahaha!
Yeah, and like, I don't know, it's... He didn't seem like a good soldier ever. Like even in the beginning where you're talking about it, like Matt. No, but like, so he is undercover, right? And then he sees the raid and then he tells his wife, I'll go pack, right? And she goes upstairs in their tiny room and he goes like, stop the raid, stop the raid. And then she comes down and he keeps, I'm undercover here, stop the raid. And she's like...
Spencer (21:05.74)
He did some good killing.
Matt (21:16.533)
Oh god, yeah.
Spencer (21:17.836)
And then he yelled.
He literally says, I'm an undercover agent. We know who you are. We called you.
Luciano (21:27.07)
Yeah, no. And and he's just yelling. Yeah. And he's yelling on the walkie talkie and she comes down and keeps on talking. It's like, bro, can you even undercover? Like, what the fuck?
Matt (21:29.181)
hahahaha
Spencer (21:41.1)
And it does.
Matt (21:41.213)
I mean, he has the biggest bro energy of all time, cause he's like, I can fix this. It's fine.
Luciano (21:45.63)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's his whole thing, right?
Spencer (21:45.708)
Yeah. What he lacks in skill, he makes up for in confidence. Yeah. He had a plan, Matt. His plan was to ask people where his wife were until he... I gotta get to Maya. And then when he gets caught by the people chasing him, he jumps off the boat and then grabs onto the bottom of the boat because surely they won't see him.
Matt (21:50.333)
Yeah, it is.
Luciano (21:52.624)
Enthusiasm. Yeah, enthusiastic incompetence, yeah.
Luciano (22:02.366)
Yeah.
Matt (22:02.429)
Take it to Maya!
Luciano (22:15.006)
Oh, but well, you can tell in this movie that AI doesn't have any object permanence because the moment he's out of their face, Ken Watanabe shoots him three or four times as he jumps on the water and he goes, oh, well. And then he go back and they're having a party in their village and they're drinking, I don't know, motor oil. I don't know what robots drink. And then they forgot, he's like, no, there's this guy who knows where we are.
Matt (22:37.101)
Wow.
Luciano (22:43.71)
and he wants to get to our fucking God and savior, but he escaped us. So everything's going to be fine.
Matt (22:47.261)
Correct? Right. I guess he's gone.
Spencer (22:51.564)
Maybe robots can't swim because they're metal and they're just like, but he's not going to find it. He was in water. It's done. It's over. He's in water. Like, okay. And all the other robots are like, yeah, tough way to go. Yeah.
Luciano (22:57.534)
He's dead. He's dead. Yeah. He's going to rest there.
Matt (23:02.589)
Yeah
Matt (23:06.589)
Yeah, that tracks. My cousin died that way.
Luciano (23:08.016)
And then in the mid - And then in the middle of the war that they're in, as the resistance of - their war, everybody's sleeping at the same time. Or recharging, whatever the fuck you wanna call it.
Spencer (23:19.756)
A great great grandfather was a foam that died of water damage. They tried, they tried. Rice can only do so much. That's why we moved to Asia. That's not that they have rights where.
Matt (23:22.557)
Did you try putting them in a rice? Did they put them in rice? I hear that works. Oh shit. Fuck, it was really dead. The one other section I want to talk about. Wow. Now the one other thing I want to talk about is, so I don't understand the final act of the -
Luciano (23:25.822)
as a toaster.
Luciano (23:30.526)
Oh no. Oh no.
Luciano (23:40.83)
Ha ha!
Spencer (23:49.356)
Oh boy. I did say like this movie, the final act is where I was like, well, that's a big swing and a big miss on the final pitch. It was.
Luciano (23:49.47)
Oh, welcome to the world, to the club.
Matt (23:51.869)
So.
Luciano (23:57.406)
Yeah.
Matt (24:01.213)
Yeah, so like basically he finds his wife and he has to kill her and... Oh my god.
Luciano (24:08.734)
I had such a yikes moment. I was like, oh my God. And it's like, if the movie wasn't so disjointed, I guess it would have been a much more emotional scene with him and Alfie. Because the acting is good. Even the kid, usually we, you know, in this show we have a history of like, no, it's Chris actually, it's Chris. It's Chris most of the time. Yeah.
Spencer (24:13.708)
word.
Spencer (24:23.916)
The kid's great.
Matt (24:24.925)
Yeah.
Matt (24:28.509)
It's just you who has a problem.
Spencer (24:29.644)
No, no, I'll take, I'll take, hands up, hands up for ownership. I've attacked a few children.
Matt (24:32.477)
Okay.
Matt (24:38.397)
Heheheheh
Luciano (24:38.46)
Yeah, I know. I actually like usually, but sometimes it's bad. And she was great. And his acting was great, too. The guy plays Taylor. But I was like, this movie.
Matt (24:48.445)
The guy who plays Taylor? Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Jesus.
Spencer (24:50.124)
Denzel Washington's son? Yeah.
Luciano (24:51.92)
Is it? I didn't know. Okay. That explains why he's a good actor, I guess it's in the genes. But I like that scene. I know it was supposed to be a really emotional moment. And it just wasn't.
Spencer (25:04.236)
But it also was, it was shot weird though. He was, he just kind of ran off and took her brain with him on a USB drive. There wasn't like a big emotional unplugging or anything.
Luciano (25:10.288)
Well, he no he just goes like click and then yeah, and then he cries hugging her Alfie and then he Well, he put he plugs. Yeah Yeah
Matt (25:10.715)
Yeah.
Matt (25:14.429)
He turns the little switch and then his boss shows up. Yeah, and his boss shows up and makes it a whole thing.
Spencer (25:16.82)
Yeah.
Like, you'd think they'd have a moment of him talking to her or being like, I hope you can forgive me. I'll take care of Alfie, you know? That's what you would have wanted, and turn it off. He's just like, boop! Like shutting down your computer.
Matt (25:30.173)
Yeah, nothing. He just like, he just immediately turns her off. He's like, well, at least you won't be mad at me for the whole, you know, anti -robot thing.
Spencer (25:39.116)
Yeah.
Luciano (25:41.598)
Tell me if I'm wrong, reply to me if you think I'm wrong. Oh, I wasn't okay.
Spencer (25:44.178)
Yeah, wake up wake up if you thought I was in the wrong in the situation No, okay before you before you get a chance before you get a chance. Hold on. Let me unplug you
Luciano (25:48.03)
The only way to win an argument, yeah.
Luciano (25:55.71)
Yeah, I don't know, but yeah, well, you were saying that, you know, you got that scene and he plugs her off.
Matt (26:01.181)
Yeah, and so like we get there we have it all the baddies all the baddies we know about her are essentially killed Alison Janney dies because she's She's well, she deserves to die and hope she burns in hell and No, no, no, I love her as the actress but her character Yeah So she dies and then and then basically he's like, all right, well I got a Joshua or John David Washington's like, all right, we gotta go we gotta go shut these fuckers down right cuz
Luciano (26:08.092)
in the stupidest way possible.
Yes. No, no, no. She was, she was great. She was great in this. Yeah.
Spencer (26:13.1)
Not the actress. Yeah, she was good.
Matt (26:30.573)
Her room is like, you know and the war as he dies does no he runs away because he doesn't die who the fuck does and who cares and so he goes out and he gets picked up by the US Army they're like, oh yeah come with us and they separate him and the kid and then the next thing we know it's like the kids being held in prison in Washington and Yeah No, we don't and and this is you know, this is probably the best point to segue because from here on out it is unhinged and
Luciano (26:44.062)
Yeah.
Luciano (26:48.702)
Oh, don't get me started on that. We don't have time now. We're going to talk about this in the plot holes.
Luciano (26:56.498)
All right. Yes.
Matt (26:59.421)
And it leads us into our first abyss shithole. America.
Spencer (27:05.496)
Before you add us, you know, we're talking about in this film, the abyss shithole that is in this film.
Luciano (27:05.946)
America! Fuck yeah!
Matt (27:12.477)
in this film. I mean, if we want to be a little bit, it's more the US Army is mostly what we're getting at.
Luciano (27:12.862)
Are we?
Luciano (27:20.766)
Yeah, we don't get to see anything other than the US Army, right? Yeah.
Spencer (27:21.036)
That's all we see.
Matt (27:23.357)
Right. The US Army basically runs. It's a military dictatorship in America, as far as I know.
Luciano (27:29.534)
So... Yeah, okay, okay. We need to clarify this at every point. Yeah.
Spencer (27:29.932)
in this film.
Matt (27:30.845)
in this film. Or.
So, let's talk about America as a blood hole. Because the movie is really keyed on, the emotional point of the movie is keyed on the idea that America had AI, AI was there to protect them, the AI determined that Los Angeles was a threat, which I guess the AI Republican? I don't know.
Luciano (27:54.366)
No wrong. Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (27:56.172)
They're against the Hollywood industry.
Matt (27:59.741)
Yeah. Nukes LA, and then you see like a general in front of Congress being all like, we gotta get rid of AI everywhere, and then we skip ahead to the rest of the movie basically.
Luciano (28:10.11)
The most US thing in the history of everything. Yeah. Like, oh, one time AI fucked up, death to all AI for now and ever. Like...
Spencer (28:10.732)
Yes.
Matt (28:13.565)
of you. Yeah.
Spencer (28:19.98)
Yeah. And AI bombed LA. Gotta get the Jews in Hollywood out of there. That was the AI's goal from the beginning.
Matt (28:23.773)
Woof!
Luciano (28:27.238)
Hahaha!
Matt (28:32.349)
Is she quiet, please?
Spencer (28:34.508)
But yeah, that's like the onset. And then from, like I said before, when you hear that concept, you think, okay, like they have a good point. You know, they were nuked by AI. They definitely would want to, you know, react.
Luciano (28:46.718)
Yeah, like it's a it's an overreaction, but you understand where they're coming from until until Yeah, yeah, yeah
Spencer (28:51.82)
Well, I don't know. But then we'll get to this. So at this point, we think America is a very competent military organization. And slowly but surely, we find out this is not the case, starting with their first military operation.
Luciano (29:02.43)
Hahaha!
Luciano (29:07.216)
Oh yes.
Matt (29:11.101)
So we jump ahead 10 years from that, the point of them saying we gotta stop the AI. And we jump ahead to our star, Joshua, at home with Gemma Chan. She's pregnant. They're having a nice little touching moment of, you know, the baby's coming and they're joking around and blah, blah, blah. And then America attacks. The US Army. And so America attacks.
Luciano (29:33.194)
America! Fuck yeah!
Spencer (29:36.3)
Heheheheh
Matt (29:39.453)
And and you know, we don't know exactly why we find out later that they were there because they had intelligence that His wife was near Mata. So fine, you know, whatever that's tracks and then we learn about the Nomad at this point and so the Nomad I don't know. Let's just segue to the Nomad right now because there's a lot to talk about there. The Nomad is a Near orbit orbit space station I'm never quite sure because it's in the sky in a way that's too big and too clear for it to be
Spencer (29:56.94)
So much on the Nomad.
Luciano (30:00.296)
Space Station?
Luciano (30:08.414)
Yeah.
Matt (30:09.213)
be in orbit?
Spencer (30:10.796)
Also, it couldn't really fly with its shape unless it was somewhat in space.
Luciano (30:16.278)
Yeah, but but at the same time it does look like it has like a vaguely Ship -like shape right? It's not like yeah
Matt (30:16.413)
in space.
Matt (30:26.621)
It's hard to tell.
Spencer (30:28.428)
Yeah, I guess it does. I picture it like an M, but I guess it was kind of like had wings.
Luciano (30:31.806)
Yeah, that's how I saw it the first time and it has that admittedly cool looking blue tracking thing. Yeah, but yeah, well, that's yeah.
Spencer (30:38.924)
That thing was dope. Not very logical to have a big laser that shows where you're aiming. Because they could do that now without the laser.
Matt (30:40.925)
It's, it's them.
Matt (30:46.717)
Listen, you leave... We can, but the thing is that what we want to copy from Tron is the master controller thing which has shrunk its legs. And so we have to change it by putting the radar beam that hits the ground to point out where they're going to attack. Maybe it's like a psychological fear thing, right? Like there's like...
Spencer (30:54.772)
Yeah.
Luciano (31:00.734)
It looks cool as hell.
Spencer (31:00.812)
That's fine. I -
Spencer (31:04.908)
Listen, I can let things slide based if they're cool enough. That's the rule of movie making.
Luciano (31:08.028)
I agree.
Matt (31:08.317)
Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Cool is good. So it was cool. So let's lie. But I do want to talk about the Nomad because it just hovers around and shoots missiles at things.
Luciano (31:19.262)
Yeah, before we get to the shooting missiles, I want to get to the hovering part because where exactly was it hovering? Because Asia is a big place.
Matt (31:22.811)
Mm -hmm. Sure.
Matt (31:28.957)
space.
New Asia, I thought they covered that.
Luciano (31:34.046)
Yeah, but it has to cover quite a lot of ground in quite a fast amount of time. That's not how.
Spencer (31:35.244)
Yeah, dummy.
Matt (31:42.893)
not if you're in space.
Spencer (31:44.748)
Yeah, it's traveling at the speed of space. So that answers your question.
Matt (31:47.789)
Yeah. It's not moving. The earth is moving. It's the earth's fault for moving too fast. Yeah.
Luciano (31:52.742)
Ah, I see. So it uses the Earth's rotation to counteract and then move faster. So it moves. Right.
Spencer (31:53.29)
Yeah.
Spencer (31:57.548)
Yeah, it's always going against the rotation of the earth, therefore doubling its speed.
Matt (31:57.691)
Yeah.
You know how, yeah, you know how when you go to the airport and you get on those like MoVators and you walk super fast, that's what it's doing. In space, yeah. Yeah, that's the speed of space. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. You're welcome.
Luciano (32:06.75)
Right, that's what it's doing only in space. Okay, my bad. My bad, now it's all explained. That's...
Spencer (32:07.532)
There it is. That's the speed of space. That's the speed of space right there.
Spencer (32:14.476)
You put enough you put one of those those fast walking escalator things on top of another fast walking escalator and repeat till it reaches space. That's the speed of space. It would be it would be incredibly fast.
Luciano (32:21.598)
And to space, it would be really fast. Yeah. So that is that how is that how that lunar shuttle at the end gets from LA to like above? Yeah. Cause there's like.
Matt (32:23.655)
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (32:30.077)
Yeah, speed of space. I don't know what you don't understand about the speed of space.
Spencer (32:33.418)
Yeah, what are you confused about once you master the speed of space? Why would you not use it for every flying like?
Luciano (32:37.758)
That's true. That's true.
Matt (32:39.823)
You're welcome. That's not important here. We're talking about America's blood hole. So...
Spencer (32:42.634)
Yeah, yeah, that's one of the few things that made sense here.
Luciano (32:46.078)
You
Matt (32:46.749)
So as we find out from the Nomad, I guess it's the space station, which really doesn't make any sense. That's right. There's no moon. It doesn't make any sense because there's people gardening up there and running weird science projects.
Luciano (32:52.83)
Sure.
Spencer (32:54.346)
It's no moon.
Luciano (33:01.822)
Yeah. And they have like risk research facilities and whatever. Hydroponics. Yeah.
Spencer (33:02.188)
Yeah, that was surprising. They have hydroponics.
Matt (33:06.481)
Yeah, but it's it it rains death and destruction And okay unending So let's okay. That's what we're getting a little sidetracked in the Nomad So Nomad was built but apparently and this is where the first plot holes me comes in The Nomad is the only thing that could win the war for the US. That's what we're told, right?
Luciano (33:11.774)
Yeah, like an unending death and destruction. Yeah.
Spencer (33:12.33)
Yeah.
Luciano (33:27.198)
Right. Not only is it the only thing that can win the war, but there's also no way for New Asia to counter it at all. Zero way. Yeah. So if it gets destroyed and they build...
Spencer (33:27.756)
That is, yeah.
Matt (33:36.367)
Zero.
Spencer (33:36.716)
Yeah, or destroy it.
Matt (33:39.173)
Correct.
Spencer (33:40.404)
Yeah, the only way...
Matt (33:42.333)
Well, we find out that Alfie has been built to destroy it.
Luciano (33:45.982)
To destroy it, yeah.
Spencer (33:47.884)
Yeah, their idea, the only way to destroy the Nomad is to create a sentient human hybrid robot that can control technology and then get that thing up into the... You couldn't just get a bomb into it. You gotta get a sentient child.
Luciano (33:57.918)
And by their own admission created this human AI hybrid whatever that's gonna grow and have feelings and everything and by their own admission will die in the process of destroying Nomad.
Matt (33:59.109)
No.
Matt (34:13.903)
Listen, that's not America's fault. That is New Asia's fault. We're picking on America right now. So it is, thank you, it is weird that America has built this piece of technology that can't be destroyed. But they put all their eggs into the basket here. But what technology do we see New Asia have, right?
Luciano (34:16.03)
Through all right fair enough
Spencer (34:16.236)
Yeah, yeah, we're not, yeah. You know what, you're right. You're right, you're right, you're right, Matt. Re -rail us.
Luciano (34:31.87)
Yeah.
Spencer (34:36.876)
to get a lot of AI robots.
Luciano (34:37.022)
I mean, like when it shows, because it shows a couple of their cities, right? It looks pretty advanced, like it's very cyberpunk or cyberpunky like you were saying. So why can't they counter? That was my question.
Matt (34:44.219)
Yeah.
Matt (34:52.701)
We don't care. We don't. That's not, that's not at play here. They can't. They suck. But my question is, because we're talking about America's plot holes here, right? And so they're saying they can't win this war without Nomad. But arguably, the fucking behemoth tanks they run on with would do just a fine job with wiping out this non -technology -having New Asia.
Spencer (34:53.93)
America
Spencer (34:58.38)
Heheheheh
Luciano (35:01.214)
Right.
Luciano (35:05.438)
Right.
Luciano (35:10.448)
Yeah. Even better a job because they, yeah.
Spencer (35:12.436)
Yeah.
Spencer (35:17.516)
tanks even honestly against the new Asia that they have the futuristic new Asia would probably lose to modern day America right now because America because you could just fly in they could bomb them right now without having a an omniscient death base that flies above you can shoot a rocket from a submarine and bomb a target.
Luciano (35:24.51)
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (35:24.861)
Yeah, sure.
Matt (35:37.469)
The Ukraine is waging a very effective war against Russia just using drones with bombs on them.
Luciano (35:42.27)
Yep. And you have like, we have so many satellites right now that can at least direct ordnance, even if they can't shoot ordnance. So like the idea of bombarding something from orbit isn't futuristic. It's a right now technology. Yeah.
Spencer (35:42.796)
Yeah, so and America's got plenty of those.
Matt (35:54.045)
Right. Yeah.
Spencer (36:00.94)
No, it's very, very possible. Now, if they said that this machine could detect things with that laser thing that made it so they could win the war, that would make sense, but they did not. All this thing does is aim and shoot. And the idea that without that one device that they'd be, the war would be over. It's like, did they get rid of all the other bombs and all the other tanks?
Luciano (36:15.006)
Yeah.
Matt (36:15.421)
Yeah, bombs.
Luciano (36:24.478)
And like I said, if they destroy Nomad, we took 10 years to build it. And then if they destroy it, we can't win the war. But by the AI's own admission, they were like, you know what will happen when we win the war? Nothing. So they can just take another 10 years and build it again. Right? So yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Like the urgency of it.
Matt (36:39.357)
Sounds like it.
Spencer (36:45.1)
Yeah, it seemed like, like you said, a contrived, like plot hole to make the story of the movie seem more impactful. It's like, this will end the war. But when you step back, you're like, I don't think this would end the war. They got tanks on the ground.
Matt (37:00.573)
But like you didn't you didn't I don't know if it's they didn't create a thing that actually like like For example Star Wars right Star Wars they create the Death Star like the original Death Star I'm not talking about anything else because I don't give a fuck but the original Death Star fuck you and Not the star dicks on the Star Destroyers and none of that I'm not gonna talk about it the original Death Star is a weapon that when you see I'm like that could
Spencer (37:13.9)
To what Starkiller base?
Luciano (37:15.39)
Oh, fuck you. Yeah.
I thought you're not going to talk about it. OK.
Matt (37:27.325)
That could turn the tide of a war. That fucking destroys planets. That's huge. That's a big deal. But you're right. This thing just drops bombs. And you can drop bombs in a thousand different ways. So you've created this thing by admission. Looks fucking cool. But doesn't actually bring anything unique to any said war. And then you show up with this other thing later on that looks fucking cool. But could have easily won this war more efficiently than taking 10 years to build Nomad.
Luciano (37:28.638)
Yeah.
Luciano (37:38.576)
Yeah.
Luciano (37:51.198)
Yeah, and like something yeah, of course and something I just thought about how do they get those tanks there?
Spencer (37:52.78)
You talking about the tanks? Yeah, the monster tanks.
Matt (37:54.011)
Yeah.
Matt (38:01.989)
New Asia has the literally negative technology. They don't have radar.
Luciano (38:02.11)
Yeah, except for AI and whatever they use to build. Yeah, it's robots, it's robots, trippers, and billboards. That's all they use technology for. Yeah. Yeah. But my point is, if they can somehow get those tanks.
Spencer (38:05.772)
end.
Matt (38:08.413)
They got a punch.
Spencer (38:08.684)
They put all their eggs in that basket, in that AI basket. We're just gonna keep building them.
Matt (38:17.533)
That's it. That's all I got. Yeah.
Spencer (38:18.036)
Sometimes together billboards with robot strippers. That's they put all their money into that.
Luciano (38:30.526)
from the US to new Asia. Why did they need Nomad? At all?
Matt (38:36.797)
Maybe Nomad dropped them off, but Nomad's in space. That's interesting. I'm not done with the plot holes. I wanna talk about America's... Yeah. Oh, that's true. No, no, tanks can't hover, only boats can, but you can put the tank on the hover boats and then... Yeah. No, no, no, that's impossible. Yeah.
Spencer (38:37.612)
We're asking a lot of questions. We need some answers.
Spencer (38:45.1)
And the tanks can, listen, we already solved that answer, boats now can hover. So the tanks just hovered across.
Luciano (38:55.006)
On the boat. Yeah.
Spencer (38:55.51)
Oh, there it is. There you go. Don't make the tank hover. Just put it on a hover boat.
Luciano (39:01.278)
No, the tank needs threads so we can f*** up crushed shantytowns. Yeah.
Spencer (39:04.78)
so it can, yeah, crush shantytowns. Yes, yeah, we went and covered that.
Matt (39:05.053)
Crush. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. I want to talk about the soldiers, the ground forces of America's army and what their plans are.
Luciano (39:15.806)
Oh, you mean the ones that are very, very competent at the jobs?
Matt (39:21.277)
This is a black ops operation. One would presume that black ops means you use your very best soldiers. Elite. So they have, they have the eight, sorry, go ahead. Yeah. Okay.
Spencer (39:26.604)
Elite Top of the Chain.
Luciano (39:27.966)
Yeah, first problem with that operation, they bring back in a soldier who's been five years dealing with PTSD and memory problems and has not been in active duty. They just bring him in.
Spencer (39:42.72)
You're talking about the op, just for clarify for the odds, you're talking about the operation in which they were going in to steal the weapon, which was turned out to be Alfie the robot child. Yeah. So their first, they didn't know where it was. So instead of giving, getting Intel from the man with the PTSD on where this base is and they bring it, they send them along.
Matt (39:42.909)
Okay.
Luciano (39:49.31)
The weapon.
Matt (39:50.301)
Yes, correct. Yeah.
Luciano (39:51.902)
Yeah.
Matt (40:01.981)
They said them. Correct.
Luciano (40:02.974)
Yeah, because he knew the layout. Apparently he knew the layout of the bass inside somehow. You had to be there. No, he couldn't. No, no. Or tell them. No, he couldn't. No. He had to go even though he was clearly not fit for duty. Yeah.
Spencer (40:07.244)
But he had to be there. You couldn't draw it out or anything or tell them, no.
Matt (40:12.733)
No, no. So.
Spencer (40:17.58)
Clearly not fit for mentally physically is missing arms and legs. He's He was yeah
Matt (40:18.941)
Clearly not, paper dude. Nothing.
Luciano (40:23.358)
Yeah.
Matt (40:24.701)
Right. So, okay, so he's not correct. We've already covered the many racists on the team, the one guy who loved, he wanted to just like mutilate people or is excited about it. And I really want to talk a bit. Yeah, yeah, that guy. And then I also want to talk about the one woman on the crew, besides Alison Janney, but like just the one, she gets, so she gets like a golf card or like a bobcat.
Luciano (40:31.646)
Hahaha.
Luciano (40:38.952)
Another one who wanted to shoot dogs in the face.
Luciano (40:52.894)
Yeah.
Matt (40:53.213)
and she drives it off, what is the purpose of that thing? Because it launches a bunch of stealth rockets to kill, but then like it shoots one salvo and it's done. And like, dude, this is, they've been fighting this war for how many years and they don't know that if they blow a bunch of cops, more AI cops are going to show up.
Luciano (40:59.166)
Yeah, what is that?
Luciano (41:13.404)
Apparently, well, I mean, yeah.
Spencer (41:15.34)
That was a shocker. They do training and they go through these situations, but the simulations always end after you blow up the first row of soldiers.
Matt (41:17.693)
Ha ha ha
Luciano (41:26.846)
Yeah, they don't know about waves of enemies. Yeah. The training is like, if you get to destroy this first wave of police robots, you're in the clear.
Spencer (41:29.228)
You know, yeah, they haven't played video games from the early 2000s.
Matt (41:38.845)
Yeah, okay, great.
Spencer (41:39.66)
Yeah, they'll be too scared.
Luciano (41:42.078)
Yeah.
Matt (41:42.781)
That's no okay my bad. Okay.
Spencer (41:44.524)
So these soldiers, they go in and they're trying to infiltrate and they, their plan was just to go in shooting, like he told them what door to go through and just go. They have no idea what kind of defense this place has.
Matt (41:52.509)
Yes.
Matt (41:58.109)
I guess.
Luciano (41:59.122)
Yeah, and no they they walk in and they don't care who it is. They just shoot scientists whatever they just shoot everybody
Spencer (42:03.852)
Yeah, they just shoot innocents. They make a point to shoot... America, by the way, we talk about this early, war criminals, they make a point to kill all people, women, children, robots, sure.
Matt (42:11.485)
or Kermes.
Luciano (42:13.886)
Oh yeah, children. Yeah. Like everything is just target practice.
Matt (42:17.319)
Doesn't matter. Yep.
Spencer (42:19.818)
Robots have faces now, so everyone with a face is a target.
Luciano (42:23.134)
Even if that face is a toaster, like the robots that don't get faces, yeah.
Matt (42:23.357)
Ha ha.
Spencer (42:26.924)
Yeah, no, especially those faces. So they when they infiltrate the space they try and kill everybody or they do kill everybody.
Matt (42:27.837)
Yeah. Dead. Yeah. So.
Yeah, but they only bring like what, eight people? Seven people?
Luciano (42:37.406)
Yeah, and then they have to, and no, it's like, I think it was like 10 in total and then one stayed out. Yeah, and then the people that went in have to go back to help the ones that were left behind. So then they leave the only guy who isn't in their actual team to finish the infiltration.
Spencer (42:37.964)
I think it was like six.
Matt (42:42.717)
But they keep leaving people behind, right?
Spencer (42:45.012)
made this strategy.
Matt (42:49.533)
for reasons that...
Matt (42:57.277)
Yep. And the guy they outwardly hate.
Spencer (42:57.676)
the most important mission of mankind's history, right? That's what they said.
Luciano (42:59.516)
Yeah.
Luciano (43:03.102)
Yeah, and don't trust. Yeah, and who they had to blackmail to come along.
Spencer (43:03.82)
and don't believe are capable. And not only that, not only that, my favorite part of the movie is, there's a big mystery door. With something inside and you don't know what it is, and the guy's encrypting, opening it, and he's like putting in the codes, he's like, it's a numeric password, and he's hacking it, and he's like, and then they call him, he's like, I gotta go, you stay here. Don't go in the door that's gonna open in five seconds.
Matt (43:05.597)
Mm -hmm.
Luciano (43:13.15)
Yeah.
Luciano (43:18.27)
It's a numeric password. Yeah.
Luciano (43:26.526)
He said...
No, no, he says I'll be back before this thing opens. Don't go in there without me. And he goes, copy. Immediately he goes in. Yeah.
Spencer (43:34.566)
Don't go...
Matt (43:34.843)
Yeah.
Spencer (43:37.738)
Yeah
Matt (43:39.613)
But also, like, it opens immediately when that guy leaves too, right? Like...
Luciano (43:41.982)
Yeah, no, like that was one of the things and this is not America. This is on the new Asia side, but like the face wearing guy, he was like, oh, I'm going to get a face because everything here is facial recognition. And then the really important door, the one that's hiding their ultimate weapon is behind like a nine digit numeric password. Like, what the fuck?
Spencer (44:06.316)
That him saying that to him like, don't go in there when it opens is reminds you of that in The Simpsons when the chief wig him is like, Ralphie, what is your fascination with my forbidden closet of mystery? It's like exactly the same. He's like, don't go in there. Something incredible is inside.
Matt (44:18.077)
Hehehehehaha
Luciano (44:18.174)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (44:25.245)
Yeah, so I mean these are all, this is the thing right? Like America's plan is, they want to kill, they don't want to eradicate AI from the planet, right?
Spencer (44:35.34)
but they also have a history of just bad hiring and distribution of hire. Because even in the beginning, they send an undercover agent, they send a black American soldier who doesn't speak the language to go undercover in a foreign nation. Like what was the plan? How did that work?
Matt (44:38.459)
Decisions?
Matt (44:46.141)
Right.
Luciano (44:49.234)
yes not only not only does the man not speak the language he never learned the language even though he was there yeah yeah doesn't know what what ding dian dang it means even though he's been there how long yeah yeah
Spencer (44:56.394)
Never tries to learn Marries the girl from there doesn't try to understand it
Matt (44:56.701)
Nope. Nope.
Spencer (45:04.298)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (45:08.093)
Yeah, that's a really great point. Like, you know, this is, you know, when...
Luciano (45:10.526)
And then they don't tell the guy who's infiltrated undercover there that they're going to raid it.
Spencer (45:16.716)
Yes, yes, that's also a big mistake. But that makes sense because they wanted his wife and they were worried that if they told him he would defend her, which he does. But that was what they're afraid of. So that tactically, I understand that.
Matt (45:17.661)
I mean, I think that's smart because...
Yeah. Right?
Luciano (45:26.302)
What? He did?
Matt (45:29.693)
Right. That's like the only smart move they made.
Spencer (45:34.988)
Yeah, but they made the mistake of not like...
Luciano (45:35.752)
Honestly, they needed to have pulled him off when he went native as they put it because they're all dicks That's how his friend talked about it. Remember when he shows up the but don't go native on me, Josh Immediately proceeds to go native
Matt (45:40.665)
Wow.
Spencer (45:42.732)
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (45:47.788)
and he ends up falling in love with an AI robot.
Matt (45:50.685)
Yeah, but going native to me is like falling in love with a native person, not an AI. He went like one level beyond. It was like...
Luciano (45:57.502)
Well, he fell in love with a woman. Yeah, she wasn't a ro No, she wasn't. What?
Spencer (45:57.93)
Yeah. Yeah, she wasn't robot.
Matt (46:01.821)
Yes she was. No, Nathan or whatever his buddy was. Yeah, true. Yeah. Anyways, it's like, so these are all like, this is the thing, right? Like they set this up, they send out the worst possible guy to be an undercover agent and he doesn't know the language. He fails. They, like, do they know they were successful? I guess they know they were successful, but then they find out there's a weapon and so they think they're not successful.
Spencer (46:03.564)
No, you're talking about the second guy, the guy who said it.
Luciano (46:06.202)
The second guy is worse. Yeah, Drew. His name is drew none
Spencer (46:09.068)
He went full sex bot.
Matt (46:30.013)
And so that's why they have to send him back. And that whole plan we've discussed. And then the like.
Just like the plan at the end the the
Luciano (46:43.326)
Yeah, the whole thing when they're infiltrating Nomad is so ridiculous.
Matt (46:48.541)
The hydro plan of just finding all like we found all the AI hideouts and now we're gonna blow them all up at the same time That I'm just like why why like why would you what are you waiting for? Like couldn't you have done that already? What why did we wait for the to just do it? You know where they are just?
Luciano (46:53.95)
Yeah.
Spencer (46:54.284)
Yes. Insane.
Luciano (47:04.51)
Yeah, because when they go into the village, like in the temple where Maya is, and Allison Janis has her favorite line in this whole movie, which is hack everything, apparently that's a command now. And he goes, find that, hack everything and find all the bases, right? Why, when the moment when they found all the bases, why don't they immediately launch the attack? Why did they wait until Joshua was back and Alfie was back? It doesn't look like it does.
Matt (47:20.219)
That's it.
Right.
Spencer (47:30.444)
It's got to charge. And it's got to use the speed of space to get where it needs to be.
Luciano (47:36.83)
The speed of space.
Matt (47:37.053)
But first of all, there's a couple things with that. One, they're not batteries, they are missiles. Physical missiles you see that just fall out of the sky and don't blow up. And two, they don't have to get anywhere because they're in space.
Luciano (47:52.222)
Yeah, and they can apparently just tilt and cover the entirety of Asia with just a little bit of a tilt of Nomad. So they could have immediately shot everything.
Spencer (48:03.82)
They needed to make a point by killing the child first.
Luciano (48:06.494)
that by showing that they're dumb? Well, let's not get about the plan with Alfie. Just fucking don't, just don't go there. Like.
Spencer (48:10.7)
I know yeah, I know you I knew you're gonna go there. I knew you're gonna go there There's so many more dumb America things do you want me to cover Joey to slam through a few?
Matt (48:15.965)
No, I mean I think, I think... Well... Yeah, slam through a few more because we do need to... Spoiler alert, the next plot hole is Alfie. So let's just knock out a few more American things. Yeah.
Luciano (48:19.198)
Yes.
Spencer (48:24.14)
Yeah, I'm going to knock out a bang. First of all, the biggest one. You find out that America nuked itself, which is just hilarious. It was a coding error. So the only sympathy they had for being these monstrous people turned out to be their own fault. So that, that in itself really makes them seem even more incompetent and evil. Using AI suicide bombers when they're against AI.
Luciano (48:25.918)
Hahaha!
Matt (48:32.475)
Mm -hmm.
Luciano (48:32.86)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Luciano (48:40.318)
Yeah, it's gone. Yeah.
Luciano (48:50.654)
Oh, we forgot about that! We don't use AI except for suicide bombing.
Matt (48:52.507)
Yeah.
Spencer (48:52.78)
Yeah, they send the...
And when I - and then when I watched that scene I'm like, well maybe they're just like simple like robots, they're not like AI, but then they make a point out - the robot says, it's been a pleasure ma 'am! And he he runs like, why did they - why did they do that? Might as well have him be like - he might as well have him be like, tell my wife and kids I love them!
Matt (48:56.637)
I love that.
Matt (49:01.053)
Yeah, no, no. It's been an honor, sir!
Luciano (49:01.726)
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
One of them almost goes like, oh, but I don't want to go. Just go. All right, fine.
Well, I mean, if they wanted to really be really be like, OK, Americans are the worst. Could have just had the robot speak Arabic at that point. Like. Well, no, they had they had Arabic there, too.
Matt (49:18.237)
Like... Like...
Spencer (49:28.748)
Oh my god.
Matt (49:29.403)
No, new asian, come on. Come on bro. Different timeline.
Matt (49:36.157)
I mean, that's fair. I, Spencer, that one's one of my favorites because A, America, I understand they're trying to show the hypocrisy of America, but it's just like, you've got it. We, we know America is dumb and evil. Like you don't have to do this. It's too late in the movie, but it's also just like, it actually doesn't make any sense to have an intelligent AI embedded in this robot. It's expensive. All you need to do is be like, Hey, you programmed a distance and like a time or whatever.
Spencer (49:50.282)
Yeah.
Luciano (49:58.364)
Yeah.
Spencer (50:03.902)
Yep.
Luciano (50:04.926)
Yeah. Like, it doesn't. Like, that thing is just a Roomba with a bomb strapped to it. That's all they needed. You know what you did. No, like, like, seriously, they could have just picked up a Roomba that exists today, put a bomb on top of it, and like, they would serve the same purpose. The tanks, yeah.
Matt (50:06.053)
Why does it need to be intelligent at all?
Spencer (50:08.364)
Why why was I programmed to feel pain?
Matt (50:12.285)
Yes. That's basically it. Yeah.
Matt (50:28.093)
You know what else would've worked? Just use the fucking guns on the tank you have.
Spencer (50:32.78)
Hehehe yeah!
Luciano (50:33.342)
Yeah, what? That's true. Why did they have to do it that way? Couldn't they have just like... Yeah, yeah.
Spencer (50:36.684)
Yeah, they had tanks 10 feet away.
Matt (50:39.261)
It wasn't like the suicide bomber things where like we're able to run into like, you know, a hole or cavern or figure out how to get somewhere.
Luciano (50:46.056)
Or even like dodge stuff, hide into like, yeah, yeah. No, it was just like a giant cylinder with legs. I, I, sir, love America. Just fucking.
Spencer (50:46.06)
closed base.
Matt (50:49.231)
Anything. Yeah. Anyways.
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (50:55.276)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it would have been totally fine to just have it be like affirmative and run off and says like it was a pleasure an honor ma 'am
Matt (51:01.917)
Yeah.
Luciano (51:02.526)
Yeah. It's been my honor, ma 'am. I die for our country. Merica!
Matt (51:08.623)
Spencer you got anything else on that list?
Spencer (51:10.828)
I give everything I have for you.
Um, I think, yeah, one, the one we covered, uh, but, um, the last, the last stupid act in the movie is, um, them killing Alice and Janie, which was another, it was more just a stupid act of the soldiers because she gets shot with a bomb and it's like beeping about to go off. And then the kid starts like stopping the bomb and she notices this because it's pretty obvious. And then the other soldiers were like, stop it. He's got his hands out.
Luciano (51:34.59)
Turns it off. Yeah.
Matt (51:34.653)
stops it.
Luciano (51:42.022)
Weapon is a no no no they actually say weapon is active weapon is active. That's what they say and she goes no no no no no It's such a it's like it's like a comedy scene
Spencer (51:46.828)
Yeah, yeah, weapon is active It was like a company's like no no no no no no no just like a perfect Exactly. It was just like an epitome of their whole thing
Matt (51:47.227)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Luciano (51:54.298)
Yeah.
Matt (51:56.125)
America's finest.
Luciano (51:57.31)
Should have just should have just shown like the next scene should have just been like a bad American flag in the background a bunch of soldiers saluting greatest country in the world
Spencer (52:07.404)
No, it's Allison. Allison Janney's cuts to her grave and everyone's crying and you see one of those like bomb robots crying beside her grave. She's the best commander I've ever had.
Luciano (52:15.388)
Hahaha!
Matt (52:16.035)
hahahahah
Matt (52:20.849)
One other thing I would like to actually mention, I don't know if we did, but I think it's pretty clear to everybody that Josh and Alfie have like a relationship and a connection that Joshua cares more about. And America is just like trusts everything to do with Joshua and the kid. It's like that allows the last act to happen. Yeah.
Luciano (52:21.662)
Jesus.
Luciano (52:34.108)
Yeah.
Luciano (52:43.966)
They say they don't, but they do? Yeah.
Matt (52:49.885)
And like, it's just, everything is like so easy. Like, why do your rockets, or why do your spaceships that are flying out of LA fly right by the Nomad? Which arguably, it docks automatically, which arguably should be a lot, like it doesn't have to be that far away, but it should be, if it's in New Asia, there's a pretty big ocean in between America and Asia.
Spencer (53:01.196)
Just a super secret base.
Luciano (53:03.974)
and docks automatically.
Luciano (53:11.806)
It, yeah, I actually did, went to look. It's like 10 ,000 kilometers away.
Spencer (53:15.372)
Speed of space, speed of space, speed of space.
Spencer (53:20.812)
What's that in regular flying speed?
Luciano (53:23.166)
15 hours, 15 hours. Five, oh clearly in the movie it was five, less than that.
Matt (53:23.261)
Well, speed of space speed, five minutes. Yeah.
Spencer (53:25.388)
Five minutes, five minutes, six minutes tops.
Matt (53:29.437)
Okay, well, I mean, it's just.
Spencer (53:30.028)
Should we? I don't know before. I know this might be in the alpha category, but the part when they couldn't kill Alfie because. Yeah, this is yeah, because that's a stupid thing on both ends.
Luciano (53:38.814)
So I think that's a good transition point between the two.
Matt (53:41.341)
Yeah.
Luciano (53:43.934)
Yeah, because it's like, why?
Matt (53:44.285)
So, okay, so yeah, dive into Alfie here. We dive into why America can't kill Alfie, because we'll go backwards from that point in Alfie.
Luciano (53:49.566)
Yeah, yeah, I think that's a good way. So like, so just to kind of set the scene, they capture Joshua and Alfie and they take them back to the US. And then a day later, whenever that was, the general comes and says, we can't turn her off. She won't let us.
Spencer (54:12.972)
Yeah, we can't, yeah, it's like we can't kill, we can't kill her, she won't let us.
Matt (54:14.909)
I actually think it was like a week or something.
Luciano (54:16.796)
Norwik, she won't let us, she won't go peacefully. And the non -peaceful way will be unbelievably painful. That's what he says. And I'm like, one, why don't they just shoot her? Like they did with every other AI and it seemed to work.
Matt (54:20.069)
Right.
Spencer (54:36.62)
with every other they just killed a 10 ,000 people and they're like, she's won't go peacefully. It's never stopped you before.
Luciano (54:40.51)
Yeah.
Yeah. And then two, they give him some gun to kill her with. And they say, just go, just go. That's, I was getting into that. Cause they just go there and it's like, just, just, just go there and convince her that it's going to be better this way. And then it's just an EMP gun that doesn't apparently even work because she just goes on standby and not turns off.
Matt (54:49.245)
It's an EMP. Yeah.
Spencer (55:07.66)
Yeah, but he did fire it, which was confusing.
Luciano (55:09.694)
He did fire it, yeah. And...
Matt (55:11.965)
but she can control stuff when it's convenient.
Luciano (55:13.918)
Techno, well, presumably that's why they couldn't use it on her, because she was kept turning it off. But like, she didn't seem to be able to turn off guns. So flashlights, yes, and we'll get to that, but not guns.
Matt (55:18.013)
Right. Yeah.
Spencer (55:26.764)
And even if she could turn off guns, just fucking take a hammer to her... head.
Matt (55:27.005)
Well, I -
Luciano (55:30.226)
No! Turn her off like they did, like he did with Ken Watanabe. It just went like a...
Matt (55:30.683)
Well...
Matt (55:35.389)
Now, but again, she won't let that happen somehow, mystery. But here's the thing. Why do they care about the unbelievably painful way? They haven't shown any regard for any AI at any point.
Spencer (55:48.652)
Yeah, yeah, at all. Or children.
Luciano (55:49.15)
Well, even beyond that, they say they don't feel pain. Joshua says it once or twice, they don't feel pain. So why would it be unbelievably painful? Because you could say, okay, so they wouldn't care about it being painful or not, but they could blackmail Josh because he wouldn't want Alfie to suffer. That's why they say, okay, fine, but they don't feel pain, they're robots.
Matt (55:52.251)
Anybody.
Matt (56:15.165)
No, but I think I don't... If you're talking about how America approaches it, it doesn't matter if it feels pain or not. Right?
Spencer (56:22.732)
character yeah it makes its antithesis of their whole arc
Luciano (56:24.158)
No, I know, but like, assuming that Joshua would be the only one who could turn her off without, oh, I guess I see what you mean. Why would they care? Just fucking do it. Yeah.
Matt (56:33.053)
They have never cared at this point. Anyways, but we're talking about Alfie and not why America can't. We just finished America's Blood Holes. America sucks. It's a good transition. But let's talk a little bit about Alfie. We learn very early on, and this kind of plays out through the movie. We have given Alfie the MacGuffin of Alfie is a small child. She is learning, she is growing, she will gain more powers over time.
Spencer (56:38.014)
Yeah.
Luciano (56:38.59)
Yeah, it's a good transition. It's a good transition. Yeah.
Spencer (56:52.524)
She is robo Jesus.
Luciano (56:56.734)
She's Robo Jesus 100%. Yeah.
Matt (56:57.981)
Yes, 100%. And so she has been built to save the world from the Matrix.
Spencer (57:06.792)
Cheers, Neo.
Luciano (57:07.934)
Yeah, she is the one.
Matt (57:08.241)
She is a neo. So.
Spencer (57:10.668)
I will save you from your sin, cause, math joke.
Matt (57:15.453)
Yeah, thank you. It was great. Someone left somewhere. So we meet Alpha early on. Alpha is in that vent, or that vault, sorry. And she escapes and kind of runs away. We learn that she has the power to stop, like to control other robots. It's very Gurugu -like introduction to her powers.
Spencer (57:17.612)
hahahahah
Luciano (57:36.414)
Well, yeah, they say she will eventually be able to control all technology remotely and no explanation how that works, but okay.
Matt (57:42.921)
Right sure, that's fine. Whatever like it's your movie if it's cool great but Sure But for whatever reason that won't happen until long after when they need to murder the Nomad to finish the war So Alfie's role is primarily to be a robot killer and I guess Alfie is just hanging out in that base until Alfie's like a teenager or like 18 And has the right to go murder everybody like I'm not really sure
Spencer (57:48.268)
I mean, I can respect that.
Spencer (58:10.444)
So many deaths in the meantime though.
Matt (58:12.477)
Yeah. Right?
Luciano (58:14.302)
Yeah, I think there were...
Spencer (58:14.444)
I mean, this is back to America again, but like, if they need to get her onto the fucking ship, why not just get a bomb onto the ship? Oh, sorry, I'm going backwards. I'm still hung up on America.
Matt (58:22.813)
Yeah, you're going backwards. We're talking about Alfie, right? So Alfie has the power to do everything. And I think where I want to allow a director and a writer to tell the story they want. And so I don't want to quibble over the idea that the Nirmata Jeba Chan creates a... It's not a hybrid because I think...
They say Alfie is completely a robot. Yeah.
Luciano (58:52.862)
Yeah, she's an AI, but she was built in a way that can grow. Like, yeah.
Spencer (58:56.522)
cloned.
grow and she's cloned from an embryo.
Matt (59:00.061)
She used, she's cloned from an embryo. She used the markings of the embryo to create.
Luciano (59:05.662)
Yeah, what I think what Haruo Kanamatanabe says is that she used a scan of the embryo of, yeah. So I guess you can assume that it was like built into her technology, the same like the technology of growing like an embryo does.
Matt (59:07.291)
Alfie.
Matt (59:13.981)
Yeah. Yeah. And...
Spencer (59:25.772)
So she has to be somewhat organic to grow.
Luciano (59:29.854)
It doesn't explain it and it's honestly fine.
Spencer (59:32.94)
But when they say grow they mean physically too, right? Like she was once a baby.
Luciano (59:35.42)
Yeah, yeah, they do. They do.
Matt (59:36.957)
They hint at it, which is part of the problem with Alfie because if Alfie is just a robot, I would love to hear more about how they found a way to make her grow. I just thought she would, like she would stay the same size, but her intelligence and her maturity would grow. Anyways, so that's part of the problem, right? But it didn't make her from the embryo, it was just a scan, right?
Luciano (59:50.782)
But if they made her from the embryo, she did already grow. Right, but they, oh, I see what you're, wow. Yeah, I know, it's a lot of hand waving, yeah.
Spencer (59:59.934)
Lot of hand - lot of hand waving.
Matt (01:00:00.029)
you need to have, there's a lot of hand waving. And so it's like, I think the challenge is like one individual thing about Alfie is like, all right, that's fine, right? You're telling a story, you're creating a character, great. And then, but like Alfie's powers basically are the ability to control AI and electronics. Yeah, yeah, she turns TVs on, turns TVs off.
Luciano (01:00:18.078)
She's an EMP. She's an EMP. She doesn't really control much, right? Yeah. She turns up. Yeah. The only time she does anything different is when she drives the car, right? When they're escaping from the police.
Spencer (01:00:24.652)
Yeah, you're right. She mainly just turned things on and off.
Spencer (01:00:32.972)
Does she control the wheel though or does she just turn it on?
Luciano (01:00:35.678)
No, she was driving from the backseat there.
Spencer (01:00:38.988)
Okay, so did she control that tentacle thing?
Matt (01:00:42.525)
Yes.
Luciano (01:00:42.994)
No she closed the door on it right the oh he closed the door in okay
Matt (01:00:45.853)
He closed the door on it.
Spencer (01:00:47.468)
No, but she made him, it dropped him. But she couldn't like, but it didn't seem like, it seemed like she just kind of turned it off and he got free.
Luciano (01:00:51.71)
Ah, yeah.
Luciano (01:00:56.222)
I think the thing that she I think the idea is to say that the thing she knows how to do now is turn things on and off and everything else is spotty like she doesn't really know how to do it well I guess.
Spencer (01:01:08.012)
I'm shocked there was not a scene where she like shut down a bunch of those robots that were chasing her. Pretty surprising. That seemed like a pretty...
Luciano (01:01:12.606)
Yeah. Or the tanks or whatever. Yeah.
Matt (01:01:17.725)
Well, the tanks technically in theory don't have AI, right? So I, well, I.
Luciano (01:01:21.82)
No, but she can turn off anything. She turns off when the police is investigating that car, she turns off the flashlight.
Spencer (01:01:21.996)
Yeah, they're American.
Matt (01:01:26.909)
This is... I think this is the crux.
Spencer (01:01:31.5)
That flashlight is AI, man. It needs to know when to light something.
Luciano (01:01:33.36)
Hahaha!
Matt (01:01:34.365)
This is the crux of the Alfie conundrum. It's fine to create a character, but you need to create a character that makes sense to the audience. And the application of the powers they've given her, they're like MacGuffins at any point to make the story feel whatever they want it to feel.
Luciano (01:01:39.132)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:01:50.718)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:01:54.974)
The way her powers work can't be whatever the plot needs. It can't just be that, because then it's completely contradictory. Yeah, 100%. It was whatever the scene needed.
Matt (01:02:05.149)
Yeah. Yeah. And that's what it was, right? Like she...
Matt (01:02:11.677)
Like I'm not really sure how she couldn't open the escape pod to get Josh in.
Luciano (01:02:17.084)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:02:17.964)
No, the door was broken. I think it was physically broken.
Luciano (01:02:23.358)
But then if the door is broken, it should be easier to open because it's a thing that holds it locked. It's not like the default state is locked.
Spencer (01:02:32.172)
The lock was broken closed. Okay?
Luciano (01:02:34.754)
Okay, fine.
Matt (01:02:36.391)
But like, a game that's like, we're forcing an ending. Like, it's fine to have an ending that ends up a certain way.
Luciano (01:02:42.108)
Yeah, we're -
Spencer (01:02:43.66)
No, but that makes sense if the door gets like banged in a way that you can't open it. That could happen.
Matt (01:02:48.605)
Sure, but the thing is you've created this being that can control all of these situations. Why would that lock ever get banged and closed in the first place?
Spencer (01:02:59.18)
I mean, she's - she makes mistakes. And there's - everything was exploding around her, you know? If a debris falls and hits the pod, you can't control that.
Luciano (01:03:02.558)
But that is, you can go back further. She had Nomad turned off, right? Why did she have to release it before Joshua was back in and safe? She didn't have to do that.
Matt (01:03:02.597)
No, but like, this is the thing.
Matt (01:03:18.557)
Why does she have to sit at a specific spot to turn Nomad off? Do they explain that at all?
Spencer (01:03:18.892)
I mean, that's a good point. That's also a good point.
Luciano (01:03:22.174)
Yeah, that's a good question. She had to go into the hologram of the world, I guess.
Spencer (01:03:26.988)
The hub, that was the brain.
Matt (01:03:29.565)
Yeah, but like, okay, but then like...
Luciano (01:03:31.422)
So none of that makes sense.
Spencer (01:03:31.852)
And I, and they kind of made it, sorry, I know we're just all asking a lot of questions, but on top of it, I'm just asking questions. When she left that hub, it turned back on. So she can't like leave it off. She has to be there to keep it off.
Luciano (01:03:37.758)
That's because we don't know.
Matt (01:03:39.101)
was asking questions.
Luciano (01:03:47.71)
Yeah. Oh, that's a good, that's a good question. She can't just like turn it, just turn it off and leave it off. She has to hold it off because reasons.
Matt (01:03:52.953)
Allegedly.
Spencer (01:03:58.348)
Yeah. Cause like, that's weird.
Luciano (01:04:03.07)
It is weird.
Yeah, and.
Matt (01:04:06.301)
Yeah, no, but that's that is that is the maybe plot hole is not fair to apply to Alfie. It's that Alfie is.
Spencer (01:04:06.636)
I mean, I don't really have an answer for that, but that's why I'm asking.
Matt (01:04:19.259)
plugs all plot holes of the movie.
Luciano (01:04:22.238)
in a very, in a very unsatisfying way.
Spencer (01:04:22.26)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (01:04:24.763)
And yeah, it's very unsatisfying. It's not a character you're showing powers and understand. It's just like, yeah, the power is to basically turn off electronics when she wants and forever long she wants.
Spencer (01:04:35.244)
Her power is to allow the plot to move forward. That's the greatest. I have some plot holes about Alfie that aren't power -based. It's more like how people act and her character. Like one thing that was confusing to me is the AI like, praise her like she's like God or whatever. Like she's she's Robo Jesus.
Luciano (01:04:38.534)
Yeah, that's her greatest power. Yeah.
Matt (01:04:39.101)
Kind of.
Matt (01:04:45.211)
Okay.
Matt (01:05:00.509)
Yes. Yep. Correct.
Luciano (01:05:00.798)
Like the Messiah. Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:05:04.332)
When they found her with Joshua, why were they gonna stun her and steal her? And why wasn't she friendly with them? Why was she being kept captive in a cage in the first place?
Luciano (01:05:20.574)
What do you mean in the bass? I think that was mostly for her protection although it's kind of heavy -handed but...
Spencer (01:05:23.468)
Yeah, it's like with sheep.
Spencer (01:05:28.364)
Well, he even says he's like, they're they got up there keeping something, keeping, they want to keep some keep us out or, and he goes, or something in. And it's like, but then also like, it's like, you think that when she saw the people who were like taking care of her, that she'd be like, hi, like, yeah. Like, but she was like completely dismissive of.
Luciano (01:05:34.302)
or something in. Yeah, yeah.
Luciano (01:05:44.872)
And also if she can control technology, she could just open that door whenever she wanted and leave. Or the hatch that they used to escape to outside.
Matt (01:05:50.013)
100%.
Spencer (01:05:50.892)
Yeah. Yeah, so...
Like she was so connected to Joshua right away and like being like, I'm with you all. But wasn't she raised by these AIs and she just was like.
Matt (01:06:05.085)
No, I think she was raised by humans. That's the impression I get. Or, yeah. But I mean, all she did was watch cartoons that made America seem like a villain. Like, I don't know if you caught the cartoon in the HUD, but it was like the nomads showed up in the cartoon scrolling over the countryside. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Luciano (01:06:08.254)
Yeah, the scientists.
Luciano (01:06:16.742)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:06:18.828)
of propaganda?
Luciano (01:06:21.566)
It was like an anime style with the Nomad being the enemy and planes flying to it and shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, that was a cool touch. Yeah.
Spencer (01:06:25.036)
Oh, that's cool. Oh, I missed that.
Matt (01:06:28.349)
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (01:06:34.941)
Yeah, that was dope. Um.
Spencer (01:06:35.102)
I mean, I don't know if that's a plot hole. I just was confused. I'm like, aren't these the ones who are like the good guys that decide she's on? And they're like, stun her, let's get her out of here.
Luciano (01:06:43.038)
Yeah. I mean, I mean, I mean, take that take that scientist that when when Joshua goes in and finds her and that scientist runs in shoots him once and goes, you have to go now and just fucks off like, yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:06:50.572)
Yeah, yeah. Bye!
Matt (01:06:54.365)
Yeah. And that's it. So the thing about an Alphi is like, it's a cool idea, but it just felt like they didn't figure out exactly how it's going to all work, right? How...
Luciano (01:07:04.902)
Implementation is garbage. Yeah.
Luciano (01:07:10.014)
I
Spencer (01:07:10.572)
I mean, it's tough to have like an all -powerful character in a story without being like, well, she just uses her powers and solves every problem. Cause that's not really a good story.
Luciano (01:07:18.654)
But it wasn't even that that happened, right? Like she solved some problems, which was cool. And like the way that they use her powers in some scenes was okay. Like the thing with the car where they're looking for them and she turns everything off and just turns the car on and drives really fast. That was fine, right? It's not all of the times that she uses her power is the problem. The problem is how inconsistent everything is, right? And also there's that point where she gets shot.
Matt (01:07:45.693)
It's it.
Matt (01:07:49.213)
Yep.
Luciano (01:07:49.438)
Right? And then she like faints, I guess. I didn't know robots fainted, but I guess she faints. Yeah, that's exactly what I was gonna ask. I was like, oh, take her to Nermata. I was like, oh, fuck, Maya's gonna fix her. And then you get there and she's just sleeping. Yeah, she's in a coma and Alfie's just sleeping beside her. I'm like, how did she get healed then?
Spencer (01:07:53.356)
They're like, Nematah will fix her.
Matt (01:07:56.239)
Hmm?
Spencer (01:08:03.244)
and she's in a coma.
Matt (01:08:05.917)
Bye!
Matt (01:08:10.237)
I honestly thought that Nermato is just gonna be somebody else. Like, right, she's dead, sorry bro, you watched her die. They already covered why he saw her with all the robots in the city, right, Lila city. So that's fine.
Luciano (01:08:15.474)
That would have been better, I think.
Luciano (01:08:23.71)
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:08:26.508)
Well, I thought it was just gonna be one of the Nermata clones. Did you think it was gonna be a Nermata clone? And it'd be like, so she act, cause they never explained how she survived getting nuked anyways. So, yeah, everyone knows when you get nuked, worst case scenario, you're in a coma. That's the very worst case.
Luciano (01:08:28.22)
That was a red herring if I've ever seen one. Yeah.
Matt (01:08:31.901)
Sure. Yeah. Or the clone, right? Yeah. Yeah. That would have worked too.
Luciano (01:08:39.164)
Yeah.
Matt (01:08:39.229)
No, they just waved a hand over that.
Luciano (01:08:45.726)
Yeah, your body, your body has suffers no physical injuries that you can see. All that happens is you're sleeping.
Matt (01:08:46.813)
That's first.
Bye.
Spencer (01:08:51.82)
It's more mental warfare. Nuclear bombs. Yeah.
Matt (01:08:53.501)
Yeah. Yeah. That's all it is. Yeah.
Luciano (01:08:55.198)
It was a mental missile that you took. Yeah. And I don't understand like the whole thing goes, oh, let's bring her to Nirmata. And then we know that you see that Nirmata is dead, essentially. But she still got healed. How does that work? It's true.
Matt (01:09:01.725)
Thanks.
Matt (01:09:11.453)
Right. Well.
science.
Spencer (01:09:16.908)
He got you there.
Matt (01:09:18.269)
I do, the one thing that's been bugging me, and I don't know if this is an Alfie plot hole, but it's probably the last thing we should talk about before we move on to our fun questions. So, Nirmata tells Josh that AI are good, and they're good people, and they're not bad, and they say, oh, it's a coding error, everybody's supposed to love AI. And Nirmata's supposed to be the champion of AI, designing AI and helping them win this war. But isn't it a little fucked up?
Spencer (01:09:43.02)
She's robo -Mary Magdalene.
Matt (01:09:47.005)
that she creates a child that has to kill itself to win the war for the AI?
Luciano (01:09:51.166)
Not just a little fucked up, it's completely fucked up. A child that was modeled after her own actual human child.
Matt (01:09:58.917)
Mm -hmm. Yeah.
Spencer (01:09:59.98)
But what's the plan for it not? I think they only said that he was gonna... If they do it that way, where they right now fly her up to stop the thing, it would kill her. I don't think that was the plan.
Matt (01:10:10.205)
But nothing is... But I don't think... But like... But what was the plan then? Because you created something... Like, the war was already fucked. You can't tell me that everybody was like, hey, you know, we'll be fine for the next 18 years and then we'll use the weapon and be good. Like, they were...
Spencer (01:10:23.18)
Maybe she didn't know when she was going to be powerful enough to just shut everything off.
Matt (01:10:27.293)
I mean, I just think -
Luciano (01:10:27.422)
Yeah, they implied that you could do it from anywhere as long as you got powerful enough, right?
Spencer (01:10:32.844)
You're telling me that if you make a super weapon that will kill all life, you're not making it a child?
Matt (01:10:32.925)
I just.
Luciano (01:10:37.694)
Hahaha!
Matt (01:10:38.397)
No, I want it to happen now, not in, you know, 12 to 18 years.
Spencer (01:10:40.268)
Hehehe.
Luciano (01:10:43.902)
Yeah, and like, that's a good question. Why is it that it will take this long for her powers to develop? She's not organic. Like the longest YouTube video of the history of Sputime in space.
Spencer (01:10:52.586)
Buffering.
Yeah, it's an update. It's an update. It comes every every year. There's a new update. It is produced by Apple computers.
Matt (01:11:04.253)
Like, it's just, yeah, like it's fine. I just, it's like it's a departure from the AI or the good people. You can't tell me that like this person took a kid and was like, like, it's cool you made a kid and it's like, oh, we can combine AI can learn and grow like humans. That's a powerful message. But then make a bomb over on the right side and keep the kid out of it.
Luciano (01:11:29.662)
Or at least like give me a reason to understand why it is the way that it is. Maybe it needed to be, like maybe it is, it was supposed to be like a hybrid between a human and an AI.
Matt (01:11:42.011)
Yeah, so it's buffering, I got it. Yep. Buffering.
Spencer (01:11:43.052)
Here's the answer guys. She knew that her husband would eventually come for the child looking for her and he would be the only way of getting that kid onto the Nomad. So she had to make it look like this.
Matt (01:12:01.661)
but she didn't know her husband was a turncoat when she made the kid.
Spencer (01:12:05.132)
She knew it subconsciously. No, that's a stretch. No. Yeah, she made the... Maybe she made the clone of... Why was she making the clone of the baby in the first place? Was it just to make a weapon? Because she was having a baby.
Matt (01:12:07.709)
Oh my god.
Luciano (01:12:10.11)
That's the stretch, not the rest!
Matt (01:12:25.245)
This is the question I'm asking.
Luciano (01:12:27.518)
But yeah, it's like none of that. None of none of none of that makes sense. They like them. That monk AI explains it, but it doesn't make sense. Or maybe it was Ken Watanabe that explains.
Spencer (01:12:27.692)
You know what? When I say it, I get it.
Matt (01:12:30.205)
Yeah.
Matt (01:12:39.165)
I can say nonsense, it doesn't make - doesn't fucking fill in the logic.
Spencer (01:12:43.436)
Yeah, because she clones her current baby in -
Luciano (01:12:45.054)
Cause she used love that she said, no, she said that she used the love she had for the child or whatever. He said something like that.
Matt (01:12:51.165)
Whatever.
Spencer (01:12:51.372)
I think she said she used the love that she had for him and put it into the robot.
Matt (01:12:54.747)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:12:55.132)
Or that's even worse.
Matt (01:12:57.565)
Right, which is all fine, but he...
Spencer (01:12:59.372)
No, it's not fine. You're building robots. You can't use ideologies as ingredients.
Luciano (01:13:02.494)
Yeah, well, if Interstellar can do it, this movie can do it.
Matt (01:13:07.677)
Listen, okay, I think we've nailed this. I have some questions we need to tackle that I think will answer these outlying questions we have. You know, Spencer, you're saying that we can't infuse love, which is fair, but then I ask you, what are the three laws of robotics for this movie? How are robots supposed to act around humans?
Luciano (01:13:22.718)
Oh shit.
Spencer (01:13:26.252)
Rules of Robotics in this movie are...
Matt (01:13:27.805)
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:13:32.716)
You have to take care of children and always do good so your enemies look bad. It's a battle. No, that's one. It's a battle of optics.
Luciano (01:13:38.782)
Hahaha!
Luciano (01:13:42.622)
Oh, always, always.
Matt (01:13:42.941)
Um, is that one rule or two?
Luciano (01:13:46.302)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:13:50.252)
Rule number two, you can have sex with... Oh.
Luciano (01:13:57.662)
But you can't have sex, but you can watch troopers.
Spencer (01:14:01.942)
You can have sex, but only with humans.
Yeah, yeah, who put that rule in some perf?
Luciano (01:14:12.476)
OK.
Matt (01:14:13.565)
And the third.
Spencer (01:14:15.98)
you can be
bomb if you want to but you have to be polite and salute those who have to honorably salute those who send you to your death.
Luciano (01:14:24.52)
and honorable.
Luciano (01:14:29.328)
Yes.
Matt (01:14:31.389)
Okay, yeah, I mean they're basically the same as Asimov's three, so that's good. A robot may not injure a human being or through inaction allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law. And a robot must protect his own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with law one or two.
Luciano (01:14:34.738)
Oh yeah, I suggest...
Spencer (01:14:35.02)
What are Asimov's again? Thou shalt not hurt.
Luciano (01:14:41.286)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:14:41.738)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:14:55.262)
And there's the zero -th law as well, which comes in later movies, but it's the same. It's like you shouldn't, yeah. It's the, a robot can't let humanity be harmed or by inaction allow humanity to be harmed.
Spencer (01:14:55.372)
That's just good writing right there.
Matt (01:15:01.565)
I said three, I don't need a fourth, get out of here.
Spencer (01:15:03.02)
What's the zero flow?
Matt (01:15:12.925)
Yeah, that's...
Spencer (01:15:12.972)
That just allows it to kill all humanity, to defend humanity from destroying itself.
Luciano (01:15:15.998)
No, that's why it's the zeroth law, but anyway.
Matt (01:15:16.445)
That's just... It's like, it's just adding another law. It's like making one, but saying it differently. They can go fuck themselves.
Spencer (01:15:18.292)
Okay.
Spencer (01:15:23.82)
Yeah, fuck that shit.
Luciano (01:15:25.778)
Yeah, these the rules of the laws of robotic of this movie are much better
Matt (01:15:29.725)
Yeah, obviously. Lil Cian, do you have any other laws you think that Spencer Menden missed?
Luciano (01:15:34.398)
Hmm. I think there was a corollary to one of the laws that Spencer made, which is you must always let yourself be killed in the most gruesome way in front of children. That's a very important law. I think they all abide by it.
Matt (01:15:40.123)
Mm -hmm.
Matt (01:15:47.613)
Okay.
Luciano (01:15:53.758)
Yeah, I think that's the only one that was missing.
Spencer (01:15:55.18)
Yeah, you have to always do the right thing. It seems to be one of the rules. Every time it cuts to like the America bombing them, it cuts to a robot like feeding an innocent child. Feed, am I okay?
Luciano (01:15:59.614)
This reminds me.
It's cutting.
Spencer (01:16:11.948)
Every, every here, I'll start that again. Now. Every time they cut to the robots, they're like doing something so nice while the America's just decimating them. So you can be like handing kids like penicillin coming out of a fire with like cats and old ladies.
Luciano (01:16:20.74)
Yeah, like singing kumbaya with a kid. Yeah Yeah Yeah
Matt (01:16:28.861)
Are the AI just Ewoks? Yes or no?
Spencer (01:16:33.48)
He walks in disguise jump jump jump jump
Luciano (01:16:33.946)
Yes.
I for me, Matt, and I'm pretty sure it happened for you, too. This is just a bunch of Zenyatta's together. Like just because the Eastern thing and the peaceful thing in the monk thing, I was like, come on. And they hit you upside the head so much with that. I got a concussion midway through this movie.
Matt (01:16:43.901)
Oh yeah, everywhere.
Matt (01:16:50.621)
And then the monk thing. Yeah.
Matt (01:16:56.413)
I was just waiting for them.
Spencer (01:16:56.46)
It's hard not to be, you have to be team AI after like halfway into this movie, 10 minutes into this movie you're like, oh, so the AI are the good guys, okay. Like I would've liked the whole new ones, but that's fine.
Luciano (01:17:01.736)
Not halfway. Like, yeah. Like, yeah. Even like Ken Watanabe goes, you know what will happen when we win this war? Nothing. Because we just want to live in peace. Yeah.
Matt (01:17:06.301)
Yeah, easily.
Nah.
Spencer (01:17:15.404)
We'll be nice. We just want to live with peace. Cut to the human putting a gun to a dog's head. It takes real children. Tell her the dog gets it! Who's the bad guys here?
Matt (01:17:18.653)
Yeah
Luciano (01:17:20.164)
Yeah, like tanks walking over like just running over. Yeah. America. Fuck yeah.
Matt (01:17:27.453)
I like it. It's fine.
It's not even like Americans were only killing AI. They were like, oh, we gotta kill a couple thousand, hundred thousand new Asians. That's cool.
Luciano (01:17:37.16)
No, when they go into that base, they even say, the other guy says, why do you protect AI? Why are you protecting them? Like, the fuck?
Spencer (01:17:43.764)
I will shoot your dog so fast! I just picture that meme where it's like the Germans are we the baddies? You know? That's like I picture one American soldier watching the massacre of small town.
Matt (01:17:44.349)
Mm -hmm.
Luciano (01:17:54.076)
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (01:17:54.363)
Yeah.
Matt (01:18:00.093)
Let's answer this question because I think it's segue is nice from this. And what I want to know is what is New Asia? Why is New Asia? Where is New Asia? When is New Asia? Who is New Asia? And how is New Asia?
Luciano (01:18:09.63)
hahahaha
Spencer (01:18:10.848)
Ha ha.
Luciano (01:18:16.606)
I think how is the most important.
Spencer (01:18:19.084)
I would also say where is the most important, as in where is their government?
Luciano (01:18:23.588)
Or their military.
Matt (01:18:24.381)
It's fair.
Spencer (01:18:25.548)
Or they're, or yeah, they're in a perpetual war with America and America is just free flowing. It's like, it has like a weapon of mass destruction flying through the airspace.
Luciano (01:18:31.55)
Well, well, every time every time there's a response to the violence that the military does, it's the police that comes. It's not never, ever a military force.
Matt (01:18:42.759)
And this ties into it, but I love how at the very end they're like, oh the world's protesting about the Nomad, I'm like, NOW?!
Spencer (01:18:51.276)
Yeah
Luciano (01:18:51.394)
The oh yeah, the anti nomad faction or whatever
Matt (01:18:54.333)
They've been work -cr -cr -cr -crimin -work -work -crimin - They've been work -crimin' for like a decade.
Luciano (01:18:57.52)
War -Criming, War -Criming. War -Criming sounds like the name of like a B -side of a CCR single that never came out. Yeah.
Spencer (01:18:58.238)
W - We're crimin'.
Matt (01:19:07.963)
Right?
Spencer (01:19:08.7)
War crime and across the east side
Matt (01:19:11.133)
Yeah, and it's like they've been work rhyming for like a decade and like where's the world on like being like hey America Can you just stop blowing up another fucking country?
Spencer (01:19:16.812)
Yeah, that's true.
Luciano (01:19:18.334)
No, but don't you understand the world is divided in two. It's West and New Asia and that's it. Yeah.
Spencer (01:19:24.78)
That's all, yeah.
Matt (01:19:25.693)
But why is it, like if you wanted to be the West, you could have just put UN on the side of the tank, which put US Army. Like, it's clearly the US.
Luciano (01:19:31.994)
Oof. Yeah.
Spencer (01:19:34.732)
And a better question is, Asia is no defense, New Asia has no defense whatsoever. How do they need this thing to win the war? There's no one to fight. They're just killing. It's not a battle.
Luciano (01:19:42.238)
Yeah, exactly.
Matt (01:19:45.053)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:19:46.366)
I also love how that general in the beginning says, we are not, we don't have any problem with the people of New Asia. It's just the AI and then cut to them fucking murdering children. Yeah.
Matt (01:19:55.141)
Mmm.
Spencer (01:19:58.572)
He's like, it's just the AI and the ASIANS. And the DOGs.
Matt (01:20:03.037)
Ha ha ha.
Luciano (01:20:03.394)
Oh, yeah. And the dogs. Yeah. Yeah, I don't like it. The police is so like it's. I was I was thinking like I was just running through when they because they had a warrant like they had like this wanted poster for Alfie and Taylor. Right. And the moment they arrived on that car with the children, the police stops them. I'm like, oh, fuck, they're fucked. They're not going to be able to go anywhere.
Matt (01:20:05.853)
and the dogs.
Yeah
Matt (01:20:21.405)
Sure. Yeah.
Luciano (01:20:32.926)
and they escape because apparently police doesn't know how to shoot tires. Like they have like seven or eight policemen there. They shoot that car and the car just goes. But the.
Matt (01:20:42.813)
I don't know how AI can aim. I have no idea.
Luciano (01:20:45.438)
Yeah, ever. But then, then, yeah, 100%. It's the Imperial Marksmanship Academy all over again. Yeah. But then like they go to, they get away from that family that they almost had murdered just because they helped them. And they buy a bus ticket, which is one of the main ways that people run away from the police. They are able to buy one. They
Spencer (01:20:47.646)
Star Trooper program. Instead of the shooting program, we downloaded Star Trek's episodes 1 through 6 and put it into their computers.
Matt (01:20:54.781)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:21:05.796)
Yep.
Matt (01:21:12.093)
Correct.
Luciano (01:21:14.206)
board the bus and then they get through a checkpoint with the bus and nobody stops them. So like... Yeah.
Matt (01:21:18.139)
easily.
Spencer (01:21:20.46)
Yeah, that's Alfie's magic. I mean, computer powers.
Matt (01:21:25.469)
Don't worry, that random guy in Lilaad City found them. Report them to the cops.
Luciano (01:21:28.478)
And then got and then got like how many people did they have go into the guy? The guy go find them and then the the the simulant guy goes in there, bombs the other guy's girlfriend with the Chinese take out the ice cream take out and then him and like 10 other robot soldiers go in and Taylor does them all in by himself.
Spencer (01:21:30.484)
Oh yeah, that got so random.
Matt (01:21:43.961)
Yeah.
Matt (01:21:51.037)
He's a...
Spencer (01:21:51.244)
I really thought that was gonna be an opportunity for Alfie to do something. Instead he fuckin' one man, he solos them.
Luciano (01:21:54.982)
control them. That's what I thought too. Yeah. Nope.
Matt (01:21:55.805)
Pop off, yeah. Okay.
Luciano (01:22:00.114)
And like, have you, I'm going to New Asia. No, I'm going to New Asia. I have.
Matt (01:22:02.205)
So okay, I gotta steer you back, cause you're just ranting. This is not a continuation, this is a rant sir. I need you to wrap it in so we can talk about the rest of the new agent, not just their cops.
Spencer (01:22:05.524)
Yeah, yeah.
Luciano (01:22:12.862)
Well, yeah, I'm going to New Asia now because I was like, is it? I was I was just talking about police. It's a side of New Asia, right?
Matt (01:22:15.645)
Why were you not in Nuage to start with?
Spencer (01:22:15.692)
Were you not in New Asia the whole time?
Matt (01:22:22.701)
Talk about something else. I asked so I had all of the who what where why how you're just fixated on the cops
Luciano (01:22:26.362)
Yeah.
On how? On the how? Yeah. No, I was just going to ask, is it like supposed to be the entirety of the click from Russia to India to Vietnam? Oh, it's just Vietnam. Well, and Nepal and type and Tibet.
Matt (01:22:40.059)
It's Vietnam, I told you that already, and a bit of Thailand.
Spencer (01:22:42.6)
Vietnam and Thailand.
Matt (01:22:46.397)
Yeah, it's all the poor already the poorest. Because like, like they don't talk about China at all. They don't talk about Japan at all.
Luciano (01:22:49.446)
Oh no. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, R Japan. Although Ken Watanabe speaks Japanese, I think the most I've ever seen him speak Japanese in a Hollywood movie.
Matt (01:23:01.533)
Sure, because it's just convenient to have an extra language in there, right? That shows the new Asia about it.
Luciano (01:23:03.614)
But that's, that's what I was going to ask. Like they all speak their own language and they all understand it. Right.
Spencer (01:23:06.22)
Yeah, yeah, totally.
Matt (01:23:08.829)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:23:10.092)
Yeah, I think they made a I don't know if they made a language for the movie, but my subtitles in the movie said speaking new Asian, not speaking.
Matt (01:23:16.509)
Oh no, no, no, I was watching on Disney. Well, I saw it, no speaking in Thai. I saw that a bunch. Yeah. And New Asian. Okay, fair enough. I didn't catch that. But yeah, so I think like I understand the lack of specificity. It makes it easier to make the movie so that no country can be pissed off like in the real world. Right. But it but it's like it just.
Spencer (01:23:19.924)
Me too.
I saw speaking in Thai too and I saw speaking in Japanese, but a lot of time it said speak in New Asian.
Luciano (01:23:29.342)
That's not good. Yeah.
Luciano (01:23:40.092)
Yeah, this way all countries can be pissed off.
Spencer (01:23:43.084)
Hehehehe
Matt (01:23:45.533)
That's what I wanted from the world building as I want explain how we got to new Asia. Just a little bit, just a smidgen because.
Luciano (01:23:50.846)
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:23:53.452)
And a little bit of like how they're not being destroyed. Yeah, what the response is.
Luciano (01:23:57.758)
How the government works, how are they waging war? Yeah.
Matt (01:24:00.637)
Why, why there is no response? Why is just a bunch of like, ragtag rebels and like the cops barely doing anything.
Luciano (01:24:07.038)
If it's a 10 year war that they've been fighting, what has New Asia been fighting with? Just the AI?
Spencer (01:24:14.7)
and the police. That's it's true. Whenever there like there's any response, it's the police. Just make the police in this movie, the new Asian military, and it solves a lot of these problems because it's like, oh, at least they're doing something.
Luciano (01:24:16.254)
I know.
Luciano (01:24:27.774)
They're being competent about it, but.
Matt (01:24:27.901)
Maybe, but they're also killing their citizens too to get the kid back for... Like they're not helping. To me it just feels weird that like the rebels are fighting, but the New Asian police are just like, as long as they don't kill us I guess we won't care.
Spencer (01:24:32.556)
That's true, that's true.
Luciano (01:24:33.95)
Oh shit, that's true, yeah.
Luciano (01:24:45.598)
Hahaha!
Matt (01:24:47.581)
Like, there are like, war criminals operating their territory non -stop and no one other than like, this band of like, rebels gives a shit and I just like, I feel like -
Spencer (01:24:56.428)
Well, no, they catch Allison Janney's character. Yeah, but then they get the juice capes quickly after.
Matt (01:25:00.317)
The police do, yeah. But it's like... She escapes immediately. But that's my thing, it's like, shouldn't the new Asian government like... Just show me they're trying, or show me why they're not trying, right? It's just like, ehh... Don't worry about it.
Spencer (01:25:14.892)
Like I don't mind if they're not trying or they're not there and you could just say like, oh, this new Asia is a, it's maybe it is like made up of poor countries that don't have a defense.
Luciano (01:25:21.566)
is the most gigantic commune ever invented by mankind. There's no centralized government. There's...
Matt (01:25:23.165)
Sure.
Matt (01:25:27.997)
Sure.
Spencer (01:25:28.076)
But it, just say yeah, just say that, but you can't say that and then also say America needs the nomad, the super weapon, otherwise we'll lose. Yeah, you can't have both of those. So that would be the contradiction in that.
Luciano (01:25:36.574)
the gigantic orbit killing machine. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Matt (01:25:45.565)
Even if you're saying like, the US showed up with the Nomad, we weren't prepared, it decimated all of our, great, done. Now we know why we're here. Yeah, great.
Spencer (01:25:50.764)
Our military. Yep, exactly.
Luciano (01:25:52.894)
Or like the military is completely tied up in like trying to defend the borders, for example. So that's how they were able to kind of infiltrate a small force. And then...
Matt (01:26:02.141)
Maybe, but that doesn't explain why no one's doing anything.
Spencer (01:26:04.876)
when they're openly bombing their cities.
Luciano (01:26:07.71)
Well, yeah, but I mean, at least show that they're doing something. Like, give me a reason to believe that they need like a fucking planet killer in orbit to win this war.
Spencer (01:26:09.58)
and having monster tanks run through their towns.
Matt (01:26:12.349)
Yeah.
Matt (01:26:19.197)
The only only one robot did anything that AI that got like a sticky bomb and threw it on the side of the tank and apparently that fucking blew the whole tank like just shuttered the whole tank inside and liquefied all the bodies or something and that was the end of it.
Spencer (01:26:20.364)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:26:26.492)
The whole, no, it just stopped. The whole thing just stopped. Yeah.
Spencer (01:26:32.396)
No, but he didn't, he didn't successfully blow up that tank. It was the monkey. The monkey blew up the tank.
Luciano (01:26:37.15)
Oh yeah, because he couldn't, he also couldn't, because I don't think AIs can kill humans. I know, I know.
Matt (01:26:37.821)
Oh, that's right, the monkey.
Spencer (01:26:44.012)
Then how is this a battle? Like what are you talking about? You could walk in. No, they can kill humans. They can kill humans. They can't kill their mentor. Yeah. Obviously.
Luciano (01:26:48.766)
Yeah.
Matt (01:26:48.923)
Let me out, okay, I gotta, I, Spencer, you brought up the monkey who is on this, so that the new Asian army clearly has trained monkeys to help them fight. And, and we noticed, we sent me a division.
Luciano (01:26:58.654)
It's the Simeon division. That's the elite fighters there. It's the Simeon division.
Matt (01:27:03.613)
Right. And we notice that the US has infiltrated a number of dogs into New Asia to help stop the police from killing their soldiers.
Spencer (01:27:08.74)
Yep
Luciano (01:27:10.046)
Ha ha ha!
Spencer (01:27:13.228)
And when they threaten to kill them, that's an act. They're actually undercover agents. Yeah.
Matt (01:27:15.869)
That's an act, right? That's an act. They know it's cool, right? To keep their cover real high. I gotta know about that dog though. I wanna know about that dog that saved Josh and Alfie and brought that grenade back to, and like blew up the entire police force. He's the real hero. I wanna know, like what is his deal? What is his service record? Like what is his rank? How many medals? How many awards does that dog won? Like he is killing it literally and figuratively.
Luciano (01:27:15.87)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:27:20.262)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:27:26.348)
Heheheheh
Luciano (01:27:26.718)
He's the real hero of this movie.
Spencer (01:27:35.53)
hehe
He has more confirmed kills than any person in the entire rebel. Same with that monkey. That monkey and that dog have the entirety of kills of the American army. Like, like.
Matt (01:27:44.669)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:27:48.286)
Yeah, combined they killed more people than Nomad.
Spencer (01:27:52.748)
then all of New Asia is killed. Those two.
Luciano (01:27:55.358)
Yeah, well definitely, because New Asia didn't kill anybody except each other.
Spencer (01:27:58.956)
Well literally that's like the only time you see the American army lose any soldiers I think is when the monkey blows up the ship and the dog drops a bomb on them. Was there like a planned plot that they couldn't kill?
Matt (01:27:59.613)
haha
Matt (01:28:03.197)
Yep, that monkey. Yeah.
Luciano (01:28:05.606)
Yeah.
No, the dog dropped the bomb on the police, on the New Asian police. Yeah.
Spencer (01:28:13.708)
Yes, sorry. But that was still their work. Those animals are working with the rebels or the...
Matt (01:28:19.421)
No, they're each on, one's on, the dog works for the American army. Yeah. Yeah, so tell me about this dog, I wanna know, is he, what's his rank, what's his, what's his, like, does he have a bunch of war medals, he has purple heart, like.
Spencer (01:28:22.092)
That's right. The dogs of the American soul undercover American soldier.
Luciano (01:28:29.98)
A hundred percent has a couple of Puppe Hearts. Got one more for Puppy Hearts. And he got another one for saving Josh, for sure.
Matt (01:28:34.491)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:28:35.668)
Pup -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu -Pu
Matt (01:28:39.261)
That just sounds gross.
Matt (01:28:44.765)
Yep, but not Alfie, because Alfie's not a real person.
Luciano (01:28:48.318)
At least he saved Josh. I would say at least a major has to be. It's a crime if it's not.
Spencer (01:28:48.716)
Peace.
Matt (01:28:50.941)
Yeah, that's fine. Any... Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:28:51.946)
Josh is a war hero.
Spencer (01:28:56.044)
But would a major, like he's a major now, but he wasn't a major during the time of the war.
Matt (01:28:59.773)
No, no, Battlefield, Battlefield promotion. Yeah.
Luciano (01:29:01.404)
Belfort promotion, yeah. Yeah. He was a captain. He was a captain before.
Spencer (01:29:01.996)
Battlefield, yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense. Accommodations.
Matt (01:29:06.301)
Yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:29:08.236)
And who works under him? Who is he giving orders to if he's a captain? Yeah, John did. It was you all along.
Matt (01:29:11.805)
I say Josh works on our him. That's yeah. Yeah.
Luciano (01:29:13.246)
Yeah, he was all they were undercover together. That's why he went to that place, because he knew he knew the dog was there from his time undercover.
Matt (01:29:20.573)
Yeah. Yeah, you had to report into that dog every month to let him know how it was going. Yeah, exactly.
Spencer (01:29:22.844)
So they killed my wife in my onboard job
Luciano (01:29:23.614)
That was his commanding officer. Yeah. Captain Rex, Joshua reporting. Sergeant Taylor.
Matt (01:29:33.723)
Captain Rex, I don't think helping my leg is an appropriate response to my wife being killed, but alright.
Spencer (01:29:36.78)
Rari?
Luciano (01:29:38.494)
No, he lets the dog hump the prosthetic leg. That's what he does. Yeah. I think so Captain Rex, that's his name.
Matt (01:29:45.053)
Oh, okay, that's fun.
Spencer (01:29:45.388)
Uhhh...
Spencer (01:29:51.596)
And what was the rank of the monkey that worked for the new Asia?
Luciano (01:29:56.094)
He's a... private... corporal... corporal... he's a corporal.
Matt (01:29:58.717)
He just started. Yeah, Corporal, yeah. Yeah.
Spencer (01:30:00.492)
He's a private. That's the real that's the real battle. I want to see that dog go get that monkey for the true owner of the of the A .I.
Luciano (01:30:11.358)
They're the only ones that do anything. Yeah. And I think he has 157 confirmed kills. Captain Rex. Yeah. Yeah. Most of them by bringing, you know, by being a good boy and fetching grenades and bringing them back.
Spencer (01:30:13.268)
It's like King Kong versus Godzilla.
Spencer (01:30:22.764)
Wow! Kinda Rex does! That dog's a monster!
Matt (01:30:24.797)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:30:35.028)
Yeah, they're all accidental. You can't keep getting away with it.
Matt (01:30:36.165)
Fair enough.
Luciano (01:30:40.614)
hahahahah
Matt (01:30:40.701)
That's why they don't know, they can't catch them because they just think the dog's just following, you know, dog behavior. Yeah, I have a couple more questions about the robots and then we should probably wrap this up. One, why do the robots want to watch robot strippers so much?
Luciano (01:30:47.166)
Yeah, exactly. He hides it. That's how he's undercover.
Luciano (01:31:02.078)
Hmm. Why? Hmm.
Matt (01:31:05.917)
How? When? No, why? What is it about that hot robot stripper action that gets him going?
Spencer (01:31:12.172)
Sometimes you just need to oil up the old nuts and bolts if you can't drift
Luciano (01:31:18.238)
Yeah, what gets to me in that scene is that she has like robotic legs and like a human torso and the human torso is covered, but the legs are bare.
Spencer (01:31:24.3)
Hehehehe
Matt (01:31:27.677)
That's the hot part. Yeah.
Spencer (01:31:28.484)
Then that's like a reverse mermaid like it's like the hot parts on the bottom It's like a reverse mermaid the the fish parts on top They're like damn she's fine just gonna just
Luciano (01:31:33.084)
Yeah, it's the hard part. Yeah.
Matt (01:31:37.661)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:31:38.622)
Hahaha!
Luciano (01:31:43.742)
Yeah, look at those hinges go. You know, she's the only one who has a 270 degree arc on those hinges. It's like, woo wee. Yeah.
Matt (01:31:43.973)
from the waist down. Yeah.
Spencer (01:31:47.04)
I was like, who the fuck?
Spencer (01:31:58.32)
Who built that baby?
Luciano (01:32:02.078)
I don't know. Something, something, something, something, Geometry porn. I don't know.
Matt (01:32:04.221)
Spencer.
You already nailed it, I don't know why you had to like... You can stop, the joke was made and then you ruined it with your weird...
Spencer (01:32:08.876)
Yeah, you have to keep pushing.
Luciano (01:32:11.986)
All right, fine. It's what I do.
Spencer (01:32:14.592)
You say, what did the sexy robot say to the AI bot? 00100. There you go. That was the robot's pickup line.
Luciano (01:32:21.758)
See, he made one worse than mine.
Matt (01:32:23.197)
Thanks, Bender, you son of a bitch. All right, well, we're gonna move past that. I wanna know one more thing. How does a robot get a face?
Luciano (01:32:28.67)
Please.
Spencer (01:32:35.116)
That's a good question.
Matt (01:32:35.197)
Cause there's like, there are a bunch of like Ken Watanabe and like Jemma Chan face ended up on robots and like the, the cop like.
Luciano (01:32:43.038)
Well, they have that whole support AI, donate your likeness, right? They...
Matt (01:32:47.899)
No, I know, but like I know how they get faces like that, but like
Luciano (01:32:50.716)
Like what's the choice? How do they choose?
Matt (01:32:53.373)
Yeah, like if I'm a robot that just has like the, you know, like the little flat grill face, how do I get that human face upgrade?
Luciano (01:32:59.454)
Oh, I see what you mean. How do you get upgraded from a toaster to a human looking face? Yeah, that's a good question.
Matt (01:33:03.717)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:33:04.076)
And are the toasters jealous of the ones with faces?
Matt (01:33:09.533)
Right? Because the ones with faces apparently just have all range of emotions. And I don't know if the AI non faces do like they they they hold children, but like, do they feel anything?
Luciano (01:33:09.788)
Well, definitely.
Spencer (01:33:19.628)
Maybe it's like us, like we're like celebrities, they get like plastic surgery. That's how you have to be a successful robot to have access.
Luciano (01:33:27.678)
Right, but then why would they choose the face of an old lady like some of them did?
Matt (01:33:32.541)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:33:33.164)
They don't know about age.
Luciano (01:33:35.452)
They would.
Spencer (01:33:37.184)
But they don't think age is like sexy or they're just like that. They're like, I just want a face so I can emote and like, and I can use my fucking lips when I'm eating food for no reason.
Matt (01:33:37.373)
I feel like.
Luciano (01:33:44.194)
I can't emote.
Matt (01:33:49.181)
Hahaha!
Luciano (01:33:49.31)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:33:54.796)
I think it's like yeah, I think it's like a status thing. It's like oh that that buck got got worked up See that guy's face. I think he had work done
Matt (01:33:57.725)
So like.
Luciano (01:33:58.366)
It's their service record.
Matt (01:34:03.165)
So basically they like are so I'm gonna you know I'm gonna go for it who cares you know how China has like the point system
Luciano (01:34:03.282)
Hahaha!
Luciano (01:34:14.046)
Oh no, yeah.
Spencer (01:34:14.25)
Yes.
Matt (01:34:15.869)
They have that for AI in New Asia.
Luciano (01:34:18.366)
Oh, I see what you mean. You get enough points to get a face. Wait, so, but if you lose points, do you have, do you lose a face?
Matt (01:34:20.317)
You get enough points, you can pick your... So if you get like 10, if you get 10 ,000... Yeah, well, so you get 10 ,000 points, get you like... We'll give you a random face.
Spencer (01:34:22.508)
You can pick your face.
Spencer (01:34:28.46)
Heheheheh
Spencer (01:34:32.972)
No, we'll give you a foot.
Matt (01:34:35.933)
Do they have human feet too? I thought it was just a face.
Luciano (01:34:38.27)
I think it's just the face. A little, the parts, parts of human body.
Spencer (01:34:38.38)
No, they had human bodies too, didn't they?
Matt (01:34:42.429)
It really just showed the face and then clothing. I didn't really... anyways. 10 ,000 points gets you any face. Random face. But you get like 25 ,000 points you can pick your face. But if... but if you lose... if you go below points... they take your face.
Luciano (01:34:47.966)
A random face.
Luciano (01:34:53.086)
Right.
Spencer (01:34:53.428)
Whoa.
Luciano (01:34:58.142)
They stick the toaster back in your face?
Spencer (01:34:59.98)
You keep that attitude up, I'll take your face. I'll take that face.
Matt (01:35:02.205)
Yeah, yeah. Exactly. Yeah. And so that's why, like, the only cop that had a face was like, he was like the, you know, a sergeant or a detective because he had enough points to get a face.
Luciano (01:35:09.008)
I think that makes sense.
Luciano (01:35:14.782)
Yeah, it definitely wasn't about his competence as a cop. I'll tell you that.
Matt (01:35:18.661)
No, he was bad. He was very bad at his job.
Spencer (01:35:21.676)
Imagine they got my face. God, that'd be such a disappointment for them. This is the face I get!
Luciano (01:35:24.926)
Hahaha!
Matt (01:35:29.757)
Yes, I'm sorry. You should have had more points. Yeah.
Spencer (01:35:30.604)
You should have opted for the choose your face The most ridiculous thing the most ridiculous thing in the movie is when it's when I saw that thing being like donate your likeness I'm like motherfuckers. We can make a AI generated face now. That's not a anybody Think what they can't do that and fucking 50. Yeah, that seems to be like opposite of what you'd want like
Luciano (01:35:31.132)
Yeah.
Luciano (01:35:35.646)
Didn't want to get stuck with that. Should have been better.
Luciano (01:35:44.062)
Right.
Luciano (01:35:49.342)
That's true. Why would you need to donate your likeness? Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Spencer (01:35:57.324)
Like, it seems like a nightmare logistically of like a hundred people with the same face.
Matt (01:36:01.661)
Alright, so like someone does crime, and I get a video but it's just a face and it's like you gave it to the replicant so it's like... Wasn't me.
Luciano (01:36:07.184)
Was me, was me. Yeah.
Spencer (01:36:09.964)
But they got you on the camera. But you got a new face.
Matt (01:36:11.941)
What does it make? UM!
Luciano (01:36:12.798)
Yeah.
That was me.
Matt (01:36:16.221)
This is a good point to segue because I'm getting into another point that frustrated me with this movie and I think we should just do our reviews because we can get those little tiny frustrations out or happinesses if you want to talk about that in your score. But we give a review on all of our movies. We use the S tier system, S is the top, F is the lowest. Mostly everything ends up in the middle for whatever reasons. We're not trying to do that. We just pick that way.
Luciano (01:36:39.794)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:36:40.076)
not true sometimes we give F we've never given an A or an S. S has never happened for sure.
Luciano (01:36:42.75)
No, it's true. It's true. Like last time. Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (01:36:43.309)
Fair enough. Like last time. Listen, we'll start high Spencer.
Spencer (01:36:53.9)
Oh, that's foreshadowing. Yeah, like I said, this movie was a I don't want to say fun. It was not fun, but it was a good movie. It was like it was well made. It was like a drama, like like with some heavy, you know, content and subject matter, although it wasn't land landed with the most. How do I say this? They didn't land it with.
Luciano (01:36:56.894)
Hahaha!
Matt (01:36:57.725)
It's just higher than Luciano, that's all I know.
Luciano (01:37:05.086)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:37:22.86)
class. You know, it wasn't it wasn't suddenly done. So it was. Yeah, it was. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't. It was a little heavy handed with their with the allegory. But all in all, I like the movie. And like I said before, it was visually really good. It was like like the world seemed cool and like a little different. And yeah, for like it's from what I know, it's an original story, too, which is always cool.
Matt (01:37:26.045)
They smash her into the Hudson, we get it.
Luciano (01:37:26.462)
Yeah, I was gonna say it flew well but then smashed into a mountain is that what you're saying?
Luciano (01:37:50.814)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:37:51.244)
You know, it's, it wasn't perfect as we've pointed out very clearly, but at least it wasn't like fucking the 10th iteration of, you know, a property we've seen a billion times. So I give it credit there. So it looked cool, well directed, well acted. Like I said, the holes in the plot are all the diminishing. I won't get into those cause you talked about it for the last fucking hour. But, um, so, so other than those issues we talked about, I liked it. So I give it a.
I'm gonna give it a B. Solid B. Yeah.
Matt (01:38:23.805)
Told you it was gonna be high. Luciano, please shiddle over this movie at your leisure.
Spencer (01:38:27.724)
Heheheheh
Luciano (01:38:28.638)
I'm not going to shit as much as you think I am, I don't think. So we've belabored all of the points, so I'm not going to go too far into it. I think it had promise. Like Spencer said, it's a new story. That's always good.
And the acting was good. The overall ideas were good, but like the implementation, like you said, the landing was just bad. And you said a little heavy handed for me. It was so heavy handed that like, it hit me. Like I said this before, it hit me in the head with what it was trying to say so much that I have a concussion right now. And it progressively made me madder and madder as I was watching. And when it got to that end, I was just like seething. So like when I started watching, when it got to the middle,
I was like, maybe this is going to be like a C, but like, no, this is almost an E, but it's a D for me. There's some good ideas. There is some interesting stuff, but like overall, it just sucked to the movie. I wouldn't watch it again.
Spencer (01:39:24.492)
Really, that low?
Spencer (01:39:32.812)
I wouldn't want you to get any either, I don't think. But, I think you're wrong. I think I'm right. Matt, what do you think? Yeah, sorry.
Luciano (01:39:37.95)
Ha ha!
Matt (01:39:38.429)
It's a different podcast. It's a different podcast, but I don't say that anymore. I'm gonna do what all cowards do and I'm just gonna put it right in the middle. I'm gonna give it a C. You guys have covered it, essentially. I think that had really good ideas, directed well, acted well. The thing that bugged me, and this is probably maybe too picky at times, but a lot of things were shown only for the purpose of doing something else later they thought was cool. You know, for example, being like, oh, you can...
Luciano (01:39:41.63)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:39:47.084)
No!
Matt (01:40:08.157)
you can submit your face for replicants just so they can have an excuse to have a Gemma Chan show up at the end of the movie so Josh can re -
Luciano (01:40:15.358)
I fucking hated that so much. Yeah, the USB memory stick, like literal, a literal memory stick.
Spencer (01:40:16.844)
Same with saving the memory for the exact same reason, just so you can have that ending.
Matt (01:40:19.293)
Yeah.
Matt (01:40:25.437)
Yeah, and so it's like it's like and they used that one point to like ask the guy a question of where they're going and it's like so like they Yeah, they like it's like they they try to do it a bit But there's so many times where it's just like we're doing we we can all see we're just doing this enough to do something else and I like gets frustrating and tiring right like if the movie hat was tight that thing those things would happen and they'd be used in meaningful ways as well as and then you know it connects like oh, yeah, I guess they would use that at the end right, but like
Luciano (01:40:31.006)
My wife! My wife!
Luciano (01:40:41.308)
Yeah.
Matt (01:40:55.261)
And like, I don't know if we talked about it, but like, you know, the idea that like, they're just gonna take a brain swipe of the person who's the vegetable whose brain probably hasn't worked in many, many years. But that's not a hearing or there. And then put it into a robot body. And then she's gonna wake up when the last thing she basically remembers is her husband, massive betrayal.
Spencer (01:41:16.172)
Yeah, and then seeing him immediately.
Luciano (01:41:18.556)
and getting nuked. Yeah.
Matt (01:41:20.573)
and got nuked and then immediately kissed him like she missed him and loved him and was like, did I miss something in this movie? So she's shit like that where she's like, it was fun, I had good ideas, but she's like, you didn't really land that playing guys. Like that's like.
Luciano (01:41:24.67)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:41:26.604)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:41:34.598)
Lighted like the Nomad.
Matt (01:41:36.477)
If you've ever had a wife, your wife doesn't just forget little things that easily sometimes, let alone the ultimate betrayal of all times.
Luciano (01:41:36.702)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:41:41.356)
Hehehehehe
Luciano (01:41:41.668)
Yeah. On that scene happened, I literally wrote on my notes, fuck this movie in the ass. I actually wrote that. Yeah.
Spencer (01:41:50.828)
Heheheheh
Matt (01:41:51.389)
Yeah, so like it yeah, so like it I when I watch it again No Because it's really hard to watch movie like this again like the fun is in the story and getting the story But there's no replay value in it Yeah, I would like the experience right like it was it you know as an emotional experience And that's fun to get out of dramatic movies, but I don't rewatch movies to get the same lesser impacting dramatic experience right like I watched the movie again because
Spencer (01:42:02.028)
fun not being the operative word.
Luciano (01:42:03.838)
Yeah. Yeah.
Matt (01:42:17.917)
I want to turn my brain off and watch John Wick roll downstairs for 10 minutes. So yeah, so you know, for me, it's a C. You know.
Spencer (01:42:21.356)
Well, do I have the movie for you?
Luciano (01:42:21.374)
Oh fucking hell. Fucking hell.
Luciano (01:42:28.348)
Yeah.
Spencer (01:42:32.556)
Well you're more right than Luciano, but not as right as me.
Matt (01:42:35.037)
not as right as you. I mean, I think that's probably a fair thing to say, I guess. I don't know.
Spencer (01:42:39.596)
Ferris Esmond.
Luciano (01:42:39.678)
Yeah, you're definitely entitled to your wrong opinion, Spencer. It's fine.
Matt (01:42:43.709)
If you guys were to guess what Chris thought of this movie without having any concept, what rating would you think he'd give it?
Luciano (01:42:48.702)
Oh, that's a fun game.
Spencer (01:42:51.404)
That's a good, that's a good. Well I know one thing. He hates when kids get, like, are mistreated. So he would really not like that.
Luciano (01:42:56.88)
Yeah, this would be an F. You're right, this would be an F. He would say, Taylor and Maya are terrible parents, this is an F. This is worse than Morbius. That's what he would say.
Spencer (01:43:06.252)
Yeah, and all those kids got killed by America. That was unnecessary. But then he'd say like, but the lasers reminded me of an old cartoon from 1975 in which he, and that takes us to the Dr. Dre album with marijuana and I'm not a big fan of drugs, but.
Luciano (01:43:10.622)
Yeah, it would either be that.
Matt (01:43:18.621)
Ha ha ha.
Luciano (01:43:25.502)
Now, somehow we'll touch on Doctor Who, and then it will be an ass.
Spencer (01:43:28.468)
Yeah.
Matt (01:43:32.423)
Fair enough.
Spencer (01:43:33.04)
No, I think he'd give this movie. I think he's usually a little more, me and him tend to be on the same page, which is a bit terrifying considering what an absolute madman he is. But often, I think he'd probably be with you, Matt.
Luciano (01:43:43.006)
Not always.
Matt (01:43:48.029)
The best thing about you being on the same page as Chris is you're on that page for completely different reasons. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. All right. Well, that's the end of our 2023 movie reviews. We picked movies that were popular at the box office as a way to see if they were good or not. Did we pick good movies? No one knows. And we'll never be able to figure it out. But we're going to move on. Next week.
Spencer (01:43:52.562)
It's completely odd sometimes opposing reasons
Luciano (01:43:53.318)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true.
Matt (01:44:17.533)
We are watching a movie that was not well received at the box office that surprised all of us. Mission Impossible 75 Dead Reckoning Part 1.
Spencer (01:44:21.67)
What?
Luciano (01:44:26.654)
Hahaha!
Spencer (01:44:28.204)
Oh, at the box office it wasn't well received. Yeah, that's true. The reviews weren't bad from what I recall. But we'll make up our own minds.
Matt (01:44:33.661)
Yeah, I don't. We will make up our own minds, so feel free to watch that.
Luciano (01:44:35.742)
Yeah, I actually only recently watched the like I had watched Mr. Impossible one, two and three when they came out and then they never watched anything else. And only recently I watched the other movies. So I was actually really looking forward to that reckoning because the last one of Rogue Nation, I think it was it was actually really good. It will be next week. It will be next week.
Spencer (01:44:54.508)
What is this, the Mission Impossible podcast? Shut the fuck up! Save that shit for next week!
Matt (01:44:58.385)
Yeah, save for next week. Don't worry, I'm sure this movie's fine. They definitely didn't, you know, change production on the next movie and change the title so it had no relation to Decked Recording Part 1. Yeah, it's fine. Don't worry about it.
Spencer (01:45:08.108)
They definitely didn't do that for a reason. This is Dead Racketing Part 1. There will be no part 2.
Luciano (01:45:09.136)
Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh!
Matt (01:45:16.401)
There will be no part two. Don't worry about it, it's fine. So yeah, join us next week. Hopefully Chris will be back and we will watch Dead Reckoning Part 1 of 1.
Luciano (01:45:17.552)
Oh my god.
Spencer (01:45:27.468)
Bye bye. Fuck yeah. Freedom is the only motherfucking way out.
Luciano (01:45:27.678)
It's technically still right if it's just the one part. Yeah. All right. America! Fuck yeah!
Matt (01:45:33.245)
Fair enough.
